Job Title: Mobile Engineer 3
Job Description
The Mobile HVAC Engineer 3 operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs facility equipment and building systems across multiple commercial facilities in the Columbus, GA area. This role focuses on HVAC systems while also supporting electrical, plumbing, and general facility maintenance. The position involves traveling between sites within approximately a 40-minute radius, ensuring that all building systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable standards.
Responsibilities
Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair facility equipment and building systems across multiple commercial facilities.
Perform maintenance, monitoring, and repairs on mechanical, plumbing, structural, furniture, fire and life safety, and control systems to keep facilities and building systems up to applicable standards.
Travel between multiple facilities within the assigned geographic area to ensure proper function and performance of building systems.
Maintain responsibility for facility services, including preventive maintenance, purchasing and inventory control, contracted maintenance, general maintenance, and technical proficiency.
Perform maintenance on HVAC systems and associated equipment, including cleaning, inspecting, calibrating, and replacing parts to maintain optimum performance levels.
Record equipment readings and make necessary adjustments to ensure proper operation of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
Comply with departmental policies for the safe storage, use, and disposal of hazardous materials, maintaining a clean and safe workplace.
Conduct periodic checks of tools and instrument inventory to ensure availability and proper condition.
Monitor the quality and pricing of maintenance work performed by outside contractors and provide feedback or recommendations as needed.
Follow all safety procedures, maintain good housekeeping practices, and ensure safety in all work areas.
Recognize potential dangers and safety hazards in facilities and propose methods to eliminate or mitigate those risks.
Communicate effectively with customers, colleagues, and supervisors regarding work status, issues identified, and recommended solutions.
Provide facilities maintenance support as a traveling technician for multiple local customers within the Columbus, GA area.
Essential Skills
5–7 years of experience maintaining and repairing commercial building systems, including HVAC.
Experience working with commercial or industrial mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
Ability to analyze the operation of commercial or industrial mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, determine the cause of problems or malfunctions, and take effective corrective action.
HVAC EPA 608 Type II Certification.
HVAC EPA Universal Certification.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid driver’s license.
Strong general handyman skills, including light plumbing and light electrical work.
Ability to travel between multiple facilities within the assigned area during the workday.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with customers and team members.
Ability to work a Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with some overtime and on-call responsibilities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Preferred experience in commercial HVAC environments.
EPA 608 Universal Certification is preferred in addition to required certifications.
Two years of trades schooling in electrical system design, refrigeration, or HVAC is preferred.
Working knowledge of computer applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to remain multi-skilled across craft areas such as electrical, HVAC, piping/plumbing, and central utility plant operations.
Comfort working in a nonunion environment.

Work Environment
This is a mobile, field-based role supporting commercial facilities in and around the Columbus, GA area, generally within a 40-minute radius of the technician’s home and typically within an eight-hour workday. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with some overtime and ongoing on-call responsibilities. The work involves traveling between 20–30 different customer sites, which may be visited once a month or multiple times per month, depending on maintenance needs. The environment includes mechanical rooms, plant areas, and general building spaces where mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire and life safety, and control systems are installed. Work may require the use of standard HVAC, electrical, and plumbing tools, as well as computers and software such as Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation and reporting. Safety procedures, proper handling of hazardous materials, and maintaining clean, orderly work areas are integral parts of the work environment. Dress will be appropriate for a hands-on technical facilities role, suitable for mechanical and maintenance activities in commercial buildings.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $33.00/hr.
