The Software Engineer II is a mid-level full stack developer within the Nomad Total Command (NTC) team. NTC develops and supports the technology integrated into Nomad’s specialty vehicles and shelters. This technology provides detailed insight into each product and allows a user to remotely control its features and functions, as well as log all such activity. This position also includes the opportunity to create software applications that will be incorporated into NTC, but used internally at Nomad by other Teams, including Project Management and Finance.
Responsibilities
Actively participate in software development meetings with the ability to understand strategic and technical discussions.
Be able to work independently on basic-to-moderately complex projects.
Be able to understand design system architecture.
Understand the rationale for selecting in-house development options versus third-party alternatives.
Develop basic-to-moderately complex frontend user interfaces and backend code for internet/intranet applications:
recommend design methodologies and toolsets
advise on the roadmap
create multimedia applications using authoring tools
manage priorities throughout the development life cycle to ensure completion in a timely manner
remove or escalate obstacles
design and conduct tests prior to delivery
Debug and troubleshoot development issues across platforms.
Take ownership of projects and provide input sufficient to complete Sprints.
Collaborate with other developers:
peer review code
escalate issues to management
advise on Sprint requirements
Work on multiple projects concurrently and escalate issues in a timely manner.
Support end users by developing documentation and assistance tools.
Stay current on internet/intranet technologies and software products.
Accountabilities
Satisfy the requirements of the above responsibilities on a quarterly basis, specifically:
Learn system architecture design, frontend coding, and backend coding sufficient to complete basic-to-moderately challenging projects.
Avoid repeat mistakes when submitting code and demonstrate learning by asking thoughtful questions after exhausting independent research.
Timely completion of tasks pursuant to agreed-to Sprint requirements in a quality manner.
Collaboration with other team members, the escalation of any issues.
Actively participating in NTC meetings.
Arrival and departure from work within office hours and responsive outside of such hours as needed.
Required Education & Experience
Education / Experience:
MS in Computer Science and 0-2 years’ experience in web programming
or
BS in Computer Science or related field and 2-4 years’ experience in web programming
or
High school degree and 6-8 years’ experience in web programming
Employment Experience:
Advanced understanding of HTML/CSS, with intermediate programming skills
Intermediate experience with relational database systems and Object Orientated Programming
Advanced understanding of web application function, including security, session management, SSL Certificates, and user authentication and authorization
Technical:
Languages: Intermediate Level - Java, Typescript, NODEJS, JavaScript
Frameworks: Basic Level - Angular 2+ or React
Data Management: Basic Level - SQL, MQTT
Preferred Additional Experience
Languages: Kotlin
Frameworks: Vue, Express JS
Data Management: MongoDB, QuestDB
Security Principles: JSON web tokens, Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)
Experience with USG-affiliated coding projects
Experience with network diagnostics and network analytical tools
Experience with web application architecture
