We are seeking a Systems Engineer / Project Technical Lead for SATCOM and Space Ground System projects of varying size and complexity. The Systems Engineer provides technical leadership throughout the entire engineering lifecycle; from contract award through system acceptance testing and post-delivery support. The Systems Engineer directly leads multi-functional teams of hardware, software, integration and test engineers and interfaces with other internal organizations such as Production, Quality, Customer Support and others. The Systems Engineer is the Customer’s primary interface for all technical matters relating to the project.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Provide leadership of large satellite ground system programs and act as the primary technical contact for government and/or commercial customers
Support definition, scoping, tracking, and refinement of the project schedule to ensure on-time & on-budget completion. This includes identification and mitigation of risks.
Maintain technical project responsibility for assigned tasks, provide technical management of project team and subcontractors (if applicable), and work closely with company management to provide status of project tasks
Requirements analysis, decomposition, and management including customer interaction and trade-off options
Conduct functional analyses to ensure requirement criteria are achieved.
Create hardware and software design artifacts
Architecture / System / Hardware / Firmware / Software design development and maturation (depending upon project size and scope)
Support verification and troubleshooting of the technical solutions provided by the development staff
Support or lead the acceptance test planning and test execution
Articulate technical concepts orally and in written forms to the customer, users, and the development team. This includes leadership of project formal reviews (requirements, design, and test readiness)
Support business development activities in support of Kratos satellite communications products
Represent the Company as technical advisor in high-level meetings and briefings with Company and customer personnel
Serve as a Principal Investigator or individual contributor to internal research and development projects
Prepare, deliver, and submit technical papers and perform engineering studies
Mentor less experienced engineers
Required Experience:
BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related STEM degree and at least 5 years relevant work experience (willing to consider a range of work and educational levels)
Strong understanding of signal processing, digital communications theory, and network communications
Software development experience using at least one modern programming language (i.e. C++)
Experience in coordinating requirements with the customer, defining/architecting a solution to satisfy them, and developing the test methodology to verify them
Self-motivated and comfortable leading a technical team comprised of a diverse group of engineers across multiple disciplines
Proficiency with basic test equipment, such as Spectrum Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, etc.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to interact directly with customers
Willing to travel to provide customer support (typically 10% CONUS travel)
Preferred Skills and Experience
Strong data analytics skills for signals and RF data from a variety of sources (IQ files, CSV files, database feeds, etc...), to include strong skills in MATLAB (or equivalent tool)
Familiarity with SATCOM links and hardware, ground system architectures, component functionality and testing methods used when integrating large communications systems
Familiarity with Configuration Management Tools (e.g., Git, Atlassian tools, Artifactory, etc.)
Experience in SysML using Enterprise Architect, Cameo System Modeler, Rhapsody, or other tools
Experience executing development projects using Agile methodologies
Familiarity with cloud-based and Kubernetes-enabled applications
Familiarity with automated test scripting and tools (e.g., Bamboo)

The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, and skills.
Competitive salary based on experience and education Salary Range: $140,000-$175,000
