Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Principal Systems Engineer (Tool Integrator) (26-159) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. Located in Colorado Springs, CO, or Huntsville, AL, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels.
This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.
Position Overview:
The Command, Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a crucial component of the Missile Defense System. It is an essential operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, collectively monitor the battle, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapon systems to meet global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that enable an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It acts as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations worldwide and regionally to enhance performance. C2BMC is vital for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of missile defense systems.
This position will perform some or all of the following duties, focusing on early-phase (concept, requirements, and design) activities of the Systems-Engineering Development Lifecycle: Lead the development of new system concepts by transforming stakeholder needs, gathered through documentation and solicitation, into clear, reviewable technical approaches.
Essential Functions:
Experience with MBSE approaches and tools (e.g., Cameo and/or Tableau )
Facilitate both formal and informal engineering technical reviews
Create, review, and critique interface documents, system requirements, verification documentation, architectural documentation, and engineering estimates
Interface with key stakeholders, including the MDA customer and working-level counterparts, as needed
Participate in Agile development planning and execution, including iteration planning and status updates
Works under general direction, and results are reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives; failure to achieve results normally results in serious program delays and considerable expenditure of resources
Maintains frequent internal and external customer contacts and represents the organization in providing solutions to complex technical issues related to specific projects
Work will be performed as a member of an Agile Scrum team under the direction of a Team Lead who reports to the C2BMC Regional Systems Engineering Manager
Work will be carried out in a designated closed area. This role is a full-time in-office position with no remote work available
Basic Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree in STEM Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 5 years of experience; or a Master’s degree (preferred) in a STEM -related field with 3 years of relevant work experience; or a PhD in a related discipline with 1 year of relevant work experience
Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
Willingness to travel 10% of the time for business needs
Conduct requirements elicitation and decomposition using behavioral artifacts like use cases, activity diagrams, and sequence diagrams to demonstrate understanding of the system's required behaviors and performance
Lead the creation of physical and logical system models that capture the system under development using Model-Based Systems Engineering ( MBSE) approaches and tools
Lead system interface development, as documented in Interface Control Documents ( ICDs ) and Interface Design Descriptions ( IDDs ), by translating system and interface requirements into detailed message-level specifications to facilitate interface development
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Systems Engineering is highly preferred
Certification : INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) Certification
Certification : Object Management Group Certified Systems Modeling Professional - Model Builder Fundamental (OCSMP - MBF
Must have Systems Engineering or Architecture experience with test skills, preferably on a DoD program
Candidates for this role should ideally have some or all of the following preferred qualifications:
Systems Engineer with over 9 years of experience collaborating within integrated teams alongside other systems engineers to develop solutions that span the entire Systems-Engineering Development Lifecycle
Proven experience covering all responsibilities of this role
Regularly interact with customers, especially in gathering their needs and requirements
Experience with one or more components of the Missile Defense System
Experience with one or more components involved in Space Defense, Space Domain Awareness, or other Space Missions
Experience with complex Command and Control Systems, particularly those with extensive networking capabilities
Experience handling many of the responsibilities of this role, especially in concept development and requirement breakdown
Experience with MBSE approaches and tools (e.g., Cameo )
Experience working on tasks where failure to achieve good results often causes program delays and resource waste
Ability to clearly and concisely communicate (both in writing and verbally) with others, present technical content, and accept critical feedback
Ability to handle short notice and urgent tasks efficiently

Primary Level Salary Range: $103,600.00 - $155,400.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
