Job Summary:
Responsible for senior-level design, maintenance, and support of the District's network and enterprise systems, including LAN/WAN infrastructure, wireless networks, virtual environments, and cloud-based services. Provides oversight for network connectivity, server performance, and enterprise application reliability.
The Network Engineer role includes two emphasis areas?Infrastructure
and Application
?which overlap and work in close partnership to ensure comprehensive coverage of the District's technology environment. Each engineer develops specialized expertise while maintaining the ability to support the other area as needed to ensure system continuity and operational reliability. Engineers collaborate closely with System Integration Engineers, Network Administrators, and IT Support teams to maintain secure, reliable, and efficient technology operations. This position participates in the department's on-call rotation for after-hours emergencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot network and enterprise systems:
- Network infrastructure such as switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points.
- Servers, storage systems, and virtual environments (VMware, Hyper-V).
- Cloud services such as Microsoft 365, Intune, and other enterprise platforms.
- Connectivity, performance, and security across all networked systems and devices.
- Infrastructure and application availability for both instructional and operational environments.
- Design, install, and configure systems and applications that sustain the District network:
- Developing and documenting network and server configurations that align with security and performance standards.
- Deploying and maintaining districtwide applications, device management systems, and automation policies.
- Coordinating system dependencies between Infrastructure, Application, and Integration teams.
- Configuring and optimizing cloud-based management tools to ensure efficient endpoint deployment and patching.
- Provide Tier 3 technical support for advanced network, server, and application issues escalated from Network Administrators or IT Support Technicians:
- Diagnose complex system failures and implement long-term corrective solutions.
- Serve as the escalation point for major outages or systemic issues affecting district technology operations.
- Develop and maintain continuity, documentation, and on-call readiness, including:
- Participating in the department's on-call rotation and responding to after-hours or weekend emergencies.
- Maintaining current documentation for network diagrams, configurations, and recovery procedures.
- Supporting disaster recovery planning and testing for critical systems.
- Cross-training with other engineers to ensure operational coverage during absences or major incidents.
- Research and recommend new technologies, tools, and strategies that enhance network efficiency, system reliability, and security posture. Participate in planning for modernization and lifecycle replacement.

*Education, Training and Experience: *
- Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or information systems. The education requirement can be substituted with five years of experience as a network engineer or similar position.
- Network (Network+, CCNA), Microsoft (MCSA/M SE), or equivalent certifications preferred.
- Three to five years of experience in network design and administration, enterprise system management, or cloud-based infrastructure support.
- Experience with Microsoft 365, Intune, virtualization platforms, and modern firewall systems preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, along with effective interpersonal and organizational abilities.
- Advanced problem solving, critical thinking, and project management skills are essential for managing multiple complex systems simultaneously.
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of networking and enterprise system principles, including routing, switching, wireless infrastructure, virtualization, and security configuration.
- Proficiency in cloud-based platforms such as Microsoft 365 and Intune, as well as virtualization technologies like VMware or Hyper-V, is required.
- Skilled in analyzing and resolving complex issues that impact connectivity, performance, or security, and must be able to develop and maintain detailed technical documentation.
- Strong understanding of server and network operating systems, backup and recovery processes, and monitoring tools is also necessary.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, maintain confidentiality, and promote and follow all Board of Education, Superintendent, and departmental policies and procedures.
- Valid Colorado driver's license.
- Criminal background check and District fingerprinting required.
