What We Want

The Senior Utilities Excavation Operator, under general supervision, operates and maintains heavy equipment used for the excavation of underground utilities, training subordinate operators and liaising with customers to determine needs.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • High school graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Five years of related experience.

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • State of Texas Class “C” Texas driver License or the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with heavy equipment operation involving excavation of underground utilities including but not limited to natural gas, domestic water, thermals, steam, communications and electrical services.

  • Vocational or operator training in heavy equipment operation

  • Working knowledge of utilities plumbing best practices, ability to assist utilities plumbers during repairs if needed.

Responsibilities

  • Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance- Operates various heavy equipment to complete excavation of underground utilities. Performs maintenance on heavy equipment.Specifies equipment needed for each project.

  • Project Planning and Safety- Develops excavation safety plans for each project. Prepares route sheets and completes work orders.

  • Training and Support- Trains Utilities Excavation Operators and Utilities Plumbers on heavy equipment, under the supervision of the Lead Utilities Excavation Operator.

  • Reporting and Compliance- Submits time and completes required training. Contributes to a safe work environment by reporting accidents and unsafe working conditions. Uses proper personal protective equipment; follows safety procedures outlined in. Material Safety Data Sheets and participates in safety training.

  • Department Expectations and Participation- Contributes to a safe work environment by reporting accidents and unsafe working conditions, uses proper personal protective equipment, follows safety procedures outlined in Material Safety Data Sheets, and participates in safety training. Committed to continuously improving the quality and value of service provided to our customers. Will strive to not only meet, but exceed, customer expectations in every interaction by providing personalized and professional solutions. Ensures that all communications to customers both internal and external to the organization are responsive, respectful, professional and solutions-oriented. Follow the standards and guidelines set forth in the Texas A&M University Fuel Gas Delivery Systems Management Plan. Participates in skill development initiatives such as Combustible Gas Indicator training and maintain a working knowledge of NFPA 54- Fuel Gas Code, NFPA 58 Liquefied Petroleum Gas Code and 49 CFR 192.

Other Requirements and Factors

  • Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system.

  • This position is security sensitive.

  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures.

  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements.
