Robert Half Assistant Controller in College Park, Maryland
Description We are looking for an experienced Assistant Controller to join a non-profit organization in College Park, Maryland. In this long-term contract position, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance, and maintaining accurate reporting processes. This hands-on role requires a dedicated, detail-oriented individual who thrives in collaborative environments and excels in managing accounting workflows.
Responsibilities:
• Lead the month-end closing process to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and oversee general ledger reconciliations.
• Manage the preparation and submission of Form 990, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate and lead audit activities, acting as the primary liaison with external auditors.
• Supervise and support a three-person team handling accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions.
• Monitor and enhance accounting workflows, addressing challenges and implementing process improvements.
• Ensure the accurate processing of bi-monthly payroll and resolve payroll-related issues.
• Provide hands-on assistance in daily accounting operations, stepping in where needed.
• Utilize advanced Excel formulas to analyze and present financial data effectively.
• Maintain adherence to non-profit accounting standards and practices. Requirements • Proven experience in month-end close processes and general ledger management.
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting and preparation of Form 990.
• Expertise in audit preparation and collaboration with external auditors.
• Familiarity with non-profit accounting standards and practices.
• Experience managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll operations.
• Proficiency in using Excel, including advanced formulas for financial analysis.
• Ability to lead and mentor a team effectively while maintaining operational efficiency.
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach to accounting tasks.
