Volunteer Coordinator – Hospice Services

Part‑Time | 20 Hours per Week | Day Shift

Our volunteers play a vital role in supporting patients and families during the final chapter of life by promoting dignity, respect, and compassionate relationships. TheVolunteer Coordinatoris an integral member of the Hospice Interdisciplinary Team (IDT), responsible for coordinating and sustaining a strong hospice volunteer program that supports high‑quality patient care.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, builds rapport easily, communicates effectively, and is highly organized. Comfort discussing topics related to death and dying is essential.

Schedule & Hours

  • Part‑time, 20 hours per week

  • Day shift

  • Includes every Saturday and Sunday

  • Remaining weekday hours areflexible at time of hire, then transition to aset, consistent schedule

Position Summary

The Volunteer Coordinator oversees the recruitment, training, placement, and ongoing support of hospice volunteers forHome Health and Hospice. This role serves as a vital link between volunteers, hospice staff, patients, families, and the broader community.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree (completed or in progress) in a relevant field such as human services, nursing, counseling, social work, healthcare administration, education, or another related discipline;oran equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Experience

  • One to three years of related experience, or a comparable combination of education and experience resulting in applicable knowledge and skills

  • Comfort with public speaking and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups both within and outside the organization

Performance Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train, and maintain a sufficient number of hospice volunteers to meet the needs of clients inChittenden and Grand Isle Counties

  • Coordinate and support200+ hospice volunteers

  • Participate as a member of theHospice Interdisciplinary Team (IDT)and serve as a communication link and resource between the IDT and hospice volunteers

  • Assess volunteer service needs for hospice clients and families and match volunteers appropriately

  • Maintain accurate volunteer records, including documentation of volunteer services provided to clients

  • Plan and coordinate volunteer recognition events

  • Serve as a program liaison and representative to community, state, and national organizations and programs

  • Serve on the volunteer committee

  • Assist with hospice and volunteer educational programs

  • Produce and distribute volunteer communications on a regular basis

  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor
