Worthington Enterprises Senior Product Development Engineer in Closter, New Jersey
Join our team in Closter, NJ as a Sr Product Development Engineer. The Sr. Product Engineer – Structural serves as the design authority for structural/mechanical engineered heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and metal framing solutions, providing leadership over product design definition, engineering compliance, verification, and configuration control/management. This role is responsible for ensuring product performance achieves customer expectations, regulatory compliance, cost targets, and manufacturability for new product development (NPD) and existing product lines.
The position leads the creation, review, and approval of engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material (BOM), and configuration change management while supporting sheet metal fabrication and assembly processes. The incumbent confirms product performance through testing oversight, maintains material and steel compliance requirements, and ensures adherence to applicable industry standards.
This role works cross‑functionally with Sales, Marketing, Quality, Operations, Purchasing, and customers to resolve technical issues, drive continuous improvement, and implement optimal design solutions. The Sr. Product Engineer also supports customer-facing deliverables, including product engineering control/management, updates to specification sheets, and technical documentation. Independent judgment is exercised in engineering decisions affecting product safety, regulatory compliance, and business operations.
Compensation range: $100,000 - $160,000 depending on experience.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for product engineering design and approval authority, including design definition, cost estimation, compliance verification, and bill of material (BOM) configuration control/management for both NPD and fielded products.
Provide cross-functional support for technical inquiries, including Operations, Marketing/Sales, Quality, Purchasing and the customer.
Drive continuous improvement of product engineering practices, including clear, accurate design definition by applying best modeling practices and drafting standards (e.g., GD&T) for production release.
Coordinate new cross-functional product design reviews and facilitate change control/management process.
Monitor and manage product engineering demand of incoming requests, establishing prioritization with internal stakeholders and driving execution against time-based schedules.
Monitoring and participation of applicable industry standards of relevant technical industry committees (e.g., SMACNA, Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association; MFMA, Metal Framing Manufactures Association; UL, Underwriters Laboratories).

Requirements:
B.S. Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or equivalent
Minimum 7 years experience in related fields of mechanical and/or structural engineering design and analysis
Sheet metal and roll forming, peening, material coatings, and joining methods (e.g., RSW, Resistance Spot Welding; RSEW, Resistance Seam Welding; GMAW, Gas Metal Arc Welding)
Proficient with CAD/CAE and product data management (PDM) tools (e.g., SolidWorks, PractiCAM, Revit)
Engineering configuration control/management principles (e.g., ECO, Engineering Change Orders)
Identify and drive continuous improvement for adaptive learning and process efficiency growth
Professional/Structural Engineer (PE/SE) license, desirable
Travel may vary up to 20%.
