Your Role The Recreational Therapist helps persons served improve functional abilities, independence, and quality of life through individualized therapeutic recreation interventions that support physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and leisure needs.
Essential Duties
Complete assessments to identify strengths, limitations, interests, and therapeutic recreation needs Develop individualized treatment plans with goals, interventions, and expected outcomes Provide therapeutic recreation interventions to support physical, cognitive, emotional, social, behavioral, and leisure functioning Use purposeful activities and therapeutic modalities to promote independence, safety, motivation, community integration, and quality of life Monitor progress, document services, and update treatment plans as needed Educate persons served, families, and staff on activities, adaptive strategies, and carryover recommendations Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other interdisciplinary team members Attend team meetings, care conferences, and other interdisciplinary meetings as needed Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with company policy and applicable state, federal, and CARF standards Ensure equipment and materials are used safely and appropriately Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy, or a related field from an accredited program required CTRS credential in good standing required Must be eligible to practice in Michigan upon hire Current CPR certification required Valid driver's license and current auto insurance required Two years of recreational therapy experience preferred Experience working with individuals with traumatic brain injury, acquired brain injury, developmental disabilities, or behavioral health needs preferred Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Intermediate Microsoft Office and general computer proficiency Ability to adapt to changing client and operational needs Genuine commitment to improving quality of life for persons served
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist persons served with mobility and care needs Ability to travel between locations as needed
