Cleveland Clinic Software Developer III - Next.js and Sanity in Cleveland, Ohio

As a Software Developer at Cleveland Clinic, you will be responsible for the design, documentation, coding, unit testing, systems testing, and deployment of software applications. In this role, you will work independently while mentoring junior developers and collaborating closely with project managers, analysts, leaders, and clinicians to gather ongoing feedback that informs design and development. You will apply advanced knowledge of computer science or software engineering, along with modern development practices, to deliver high-quality, user-focused solutions. This position requires deep, hands-on expertise in building modern production web platforms using Next.js, React, and Sanity CMS, with proven experience delivering complex applications on an enterprise scale. You will serve as a senior individual contributor and technical mentor, participating in architecture decisions, performance optimization, content modeling, and the evolution of a multi-application frontend ecosystem.
This position contributes to our mission to increase the number of patients we serve by supporting the transition to a modern CMS that enables faster content delivery and more efficient workflows for writers and content creators.
A caregiver in this role works remotely in OH, FL, NV from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Design, develop, and implement software applications, focusing on robustness, reusability, and integration with existing systems
Responsible for developing new software and proofing/testing the development to ensure production of a quality product.
Regularly engage in software performance optimization.
Analyze current programs and processes.
Make recommendations which yield a more cost-effective product and better streamlined workflows.
Support team strategy in development approach.
Iterate with team members around design and development.
Provide technical support to other developers when project support is needed including the design of relational databases, client-side programming strategies using the latest JavaScript frameworks.
Determine and communicate the implications of system-level decisions on subsystems and components.
Determine how best to mitigate or take advantage of these implications.
Make presentations to clinicians and hospital leaders.
Observe workflow.
Translate clinical problems into innovative healthcare solutions.
Gather business and application specific requirements.
Ensure all requirements are met as well as maintained within defined project scope.
Determine whether a particular problem is caused by hardware, operating systems software, application programs, or network failures and supporting as necessary.
Operate independently on complex technical initiatives while mentoring junior and mid-level engineers.
Translate ambiguous product, marketing, and clinical workflows into robust technical solutions.
Drive technical standards, architectural consistency, and best practices across the team.
Partner effectively with designers, product managers, QA, DevOps, and clinical stakeholders.
Maintain high quality standards in security, performance, accessibility, and reliability.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
Seven years of software development experience
Experience with: SOA development using SOAP and REST; mobile application development and associated libraries
Proven track record of enterprise architecture experience with large volume, high availability enterprise applications
Strong knowledge of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, GIT, and other related tools
Proven ability to transition between different technologies and programming languages.
Experience in interfacing with internal and external customers
Advanced experience building production applications using Next.js and React with strong command of server-side rendering, routing strategies, caching, streaming, performance optimization, accessibility, and SEO
Experience operating within large monorepos and shared component libraries.
Deep experience designing and maintaining Sanity schemas, structured content models, GROQ queries, custom previews, studio extensions, and publishing workflows
Proven ability to integrate Sanity into complex frontend architectures and support scalable editorial workflows across multiple sites and teams
Experience designing reusable systems, libraries, and frameworks that scale across teams
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Experience with hospital or medical systems
Experience in healthcare software development
Strong experience in technologies including Sanity, Next.js, and React
Hands-on experience integrating AI APIs into production applications, including prompt orchestration, evaluation, observability, and responsible usage patterns
Experience building developer tooling or application features that leverage AI for automation, search, content enrichment, or decision support
Experience building or consuming MCP servers or similar orchestration layers for AI tools and services
Strong understanding of service contracts, authentication, error handling, and observability in distributed systems
Experience in healthcare, regulated environments, or high-compliance platforms
Experience with content platforms, publishing workflows, and multi-site architecture
Familiarity with observability tooling, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native deployments
Physical Requirements:

Pay Range
Minimum Annual Salary: $84,200.00
Maximum Annual Salary: $128,412.50
