Job Title: Flex Production Technician
Location: Cleveland, OH Employment Type: Full-time, Non-Exempt Schedule: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts available (shift differential for 2nd and 3rd shifts)
Position Summary
The Flex Production Technician is a highly adaptable, cross-trained manufacturing role designed to support production continuity, workforce flexibility, and operational stability. This position is critical for maintaining output during staffing gaps, production ramp-ups, and fluctuating demand.
Employees in this role are expected to develop proficiency across multiple production functions within their assigned work area and progressively cross-train across additional areas as needed. The role follows a structured, skill-based progression model with multiple levels. Advancement is earned through demonstrated competency, training completion, and sustained performance---not length of service.
Flex Technician Progression Levels
Flex Technician I -- Entry Level
- All new Flex Technicians begin at this level
- Develop proficiency in multiple core production functions
- Actively complete required training competencies
- Provide operational coverage under guidance from leads or trainers
- Begin exposure to cross-training opportunities
Flex Technician II -- Intermediate Level
- Demonstrate proficiency across most or all functions within the assigned area
- Complete required training for advancement
- Actively cross-trained across multiple production areas
- Independently support staffing gaps and ramp activity
- Serve as a functional resource during work area transitions
Flex Technician III -- Advanced Level
- Demonstrate advanced proficiency across all functional areas
- Fully cross-trained across production areas
- Provide critical coverage during high-impact staffing gaps and production disruptions
- Serve as backup line support during high-volume periods or leadership absences
- Support onboarding, job shadowing, and knowledge transfer for new employees
Advancement between levels is competency-based and contingent upon documented training completion, demonstrated skills, and operational readiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain proficiency in all required production functions
- Progressively cross-train across work areas to support operational flexibility
- Rotate between work areas, roles, and shifts based on business needs
- Support staffing stabilization during absences, turnover, and demand surges
- Perform work in accordance with standard operating procedures, quality standards, and safety requirements
- Partner with supervisors, leads, and trainers to ensure smooth role transitions
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and training effectiveness
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Manufacturing, production, or warehouse experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to learn multiple job functions
- Strong attendance, reliability, and professionalism
- Ability to follow instructions and safety protocols
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a cross-trained or flexible workforce role
- Familiarity with job rotation, standardized work, or lean manufacturing principles
- Experience using production, quality, or inventory/ERP systems
