Job Description
The Engineering Supervisor (Manufacturing & Process) serves as the technical leader for defining and improving manufacturing processes, enhancing existing equipment, and driving product quality in a high-volume, single-piece flow environment. This role provides day-to-day engineering support in close partnership with Maintenance and Quality, leads continuous improvement and automation initiatives, and supports New Product Introduction (NPI) launches from concept through production ramp-up. The Engineering Supervisor also supervises and mentors manufacturing engineers, helping build a strong lean and continuous improvement culture while ensuring compliance with internal standards and Department of Defense (DoD) requirements.
Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day engineering support for single-piece flow manufacturing lines, ensuring stable, efficient, and reliable operations.
Define, document, and continuously improve manufacturing processes in collaboration with Quality, Maintenance, Design, and Operations teams.
Develop, maintain, and update detailed work instructions, process definitions, and control plans to support consistent, high-quality production.
Lead improvements to existing equipment to enhance product quality and consistency, reduce scrap, improve reliability, and support productivity goals.
Ensure production lines operate without interruption by proactively addressing process weaknesses, equipment issues, and reliability concerns.
Partner closely with the Maintenance team to align on reliability improvement strategies, preventive maintenance actions, and long-term equipment health.
Oversee the installation, commissioning, and qualification of new equipment for new and existing products, ensuring compliance with DoD and internal standards.
Support and lead New Product Introduction (NPI) launches, integrating new products and processes into production lines and ensuring successful ramp-up and production readiness.
Implement robust process controls to maintain consistent product quality and adherence to SQDIP priorities (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, Productivity).
Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including kaizen events and Lean activities, to improve productivity, reduce waste, and optimize cycle times.
Collaborate with Value Stream Managers to identify and prioritize improvement opportunities across the manufacturing value stream.
Validate new processes and equipment, ensuring capability, repeatability, and alignment with quality and performance requirements.
Lead and mentor manufacturing engineers, providing guidance, training, and coaching to build strong technical and lean capabilities.
Work with continuous improvement specialists to ensure engineers are trained in lean principles, kaizen, and continuous improvement tools.
Lead or participate in root cause analysis and structured problem-solving activities (such as 5 Why and 8D) to resolve quality and process issues.
Ensure adherence to DoD security and compliance requirements in all engineering and process-related activities.
Manage and execute engineering and equipment-related projects, including upgrades and improvements, using sound project management practices.
Spend approximately half of the time on the manufacturing floor and half at the desk, maintaining strong visibility and engagement with operations.
Train and develop manufacturing engineers, including at least one direct report, to support ongoing projects, automation initiatives, and process improvements.
Operate effectively in an environment where some processes are not yet fully defined, helping bring structure, clarity, and standardization over time.
Essential Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering.
8+ years of experience in process and manufacturing engineering within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Experience providing engineering support for manufacturing operations, including process definition, documentation, and control.
Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles and a continuous improvement culture.
Hands-on experience participating in or supporting kaizen or similar continuous improvement events.
Project management skills for leading equipment improvements, upgrades, and implementation projects.
Previous leadership experience, including supervising, mentoring, or leading engineering teams or projects.
Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) launches and integrating new products into production lines.
Some familiarity with Department of Defense (DoD) compliance standards and security requirements.
Ability to collaborate effectively with Maintenance, Quality, Design, Operations, and Value Stream leaders.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to lead structured root cause analysis.
Comfort working in an environment with ambiguity and evolving processes, and the ability to help establish structure and standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Master’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering is preferred.
Technical expertise in manufacturing processes, equipment reliability, and process control.
Experience with Lean Manufacturing tools, kaizen, and 5S implementation.
Ability to lead root cause analysis and structured problem-solving using methods such as 5 Why and 8D.
Experience with process improvement, manufacturing process optimization, tooling, machining, and fabrication.
Exposure to or experience with PLC programming in support of automation initiatives.
Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with a strong focus on quality and reliability.
Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and develop manufacturing engineers in lean and continuous improvement tools.
Work Environment
The role is based in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing facility focused on advanced head protection systems that directly impact the safety and lives of end users. The environment combines approximately 50% time on the production floor and 50% time at a desk, offering both hands-on engagement with equipment and processes and office-based engineering work. The facility has been recently remodeled, features a game room area, and maintains an extremely clean manufacturing environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cleveland, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $55.00/hr.
