Job Title: OSP Fiber Puller (Entry Level)Job Overview
The OSP Fiber Puller is responsible for installing fiber‑optic cable within underground conduit systems, including handholes, manholes, and other outside plant (OSP) pathways. This role involves physical labor, safe use of pulling equipment, and close coordination with OSP construction crews to support successful telecom network deployments. The position emphasizes cable handling, job‑site organization, and strict adherence to safety standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesFiber Pulling & Installation
Pull and route fiber‑optic cable through pre‑installed conduits, ducts, and underground pathways
Handle and manage fiber cable to prevent twisting, kinking, or damage during installation
Operate fiber‑pulling equipment such as winches and mechanical cable pullers for long‑distance pulls
Job Site Operations
Work collaboratively with OSP crew members to coordinate pulls, manage distances, and guide cables through bends, vaults, and access points
Maintain an organized worksite, including proper cable staging, coil management, and tool/material storage
Identify and communicate conduit obstructions or snags and assist with troubleshooting to clear pathways
Safety & Compliance
Follow all OSP safety procedures, including proper use of PPE (gloves, eye protection, steel‑toed boots)
Adhere to safety standards for underground and confined‑space work environments
Assist with setting up barricades, signage, and traffic‑safe work zones when working in public rights‑of‑way
Reliability & Work Expectations
Successful technicians demonstrate professionalism, dependability, and teamwork. Performance issues commonly arise from:
Unexcused absences or last‑minute call‑outs
Consistent tardiness
Excessive mobile phone use during work hours
Poor attitude or lack of teamwork that impacts crew productivity
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Clayton, NC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $22.00/hr.
