Automotive Technician

Job Description

The Automotive Technician inspects incoming vehicles, accurately identifies mechanical and safety issues, and supports the repair process from diagnosis through parts coordination. You will work on a high volume of vehicles each day, focusing on key systems such as engines, transmissions, tires, brakes, and routine maintenance services like oil changes, while collaborating closely with other technicians and the parts department.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect incoming vehicles to identify mechanical, safety, and maintenance issues.

  • Work on approximately 10–15 vehicles per day using your assigned lift.

  • Diagnose and document issues related to engines, transmissions, tires, brakes, and oil changes in a clear and organized manner.

  • Perform or assist with basic mechanical services such as tire rotations, brake inspections, and oil changes as needed.

  • Collaborate with other technicians to determine necessary repairs and prioritize work effectively.

  • Communicate with the parts department to request, verify, and coordinate parts needed for repairs.

  • Ensure all inspection and repair documentation is accurate, complete, and submitted in a timely manner.

  • Follow established shop procedures and safety guidelines while working on vehicles.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including your assigned lift and tools.

  • Support a team-oriented environment by sharing knowledge and assisting colleagues when needed.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on automotive experience as a mechanic or technician.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand how vehicle systems operate.

  • Experience inspecting vehicles for issues involving engines, transmissions, tires, brakes, and oil changes.

  • Ability to diagnose and identify mechanical and maintenance problems accurately.

  • Basic repair skills related to tires, brakes, and routine maintenance services.

  • Ability to document findings clearly and follow established inspection processes.

  • Effective collaboration skills to work closely with other technicians and the parts department.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety procedures in a shop environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an automotive service environment such as quick lube, tire, or brake shops (for example, experience at a fast-service oil change or tire center).

  • Experience as an automotive mechanic or technician in any professional shop setting.

  • Diagnostic experience using standard automotive inspection practices.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to shop processes and documentation requirements.

  • Ability to manage a steady workflow and handle multiple vehicles in a single day.

Work Environment

This role is based in an active automotive shop where you work on a dedicated vehicle lift and handle a steady flow of 10–15 vehicles per day. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Clarksville, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
