Instructional Designer, Digital Learning and Library Services Job Description

Role: The Instructional Designer supports student success and teaching effectiveness by collaborating with faculty to design engaging, accessible learning experiences and to integrate digital learning resources and library services into courses. In addition, the role provides research and information literacy instruction and supports day-to-day Cisco Campus Library and instructional technology services for on campus, online, and dual credit students. Team: The Instructional Designer reports jointly to the Dean of Digital Learning and the Cisco Campus Library Manager. The role works closely with the Digital Learning team, the Abilene Library Manager, and library staff. The Instructional Designer will serve as a collaborative member of the Center for Teaching and Learning once established.

Responsibilities: Assists faculty in creating interactive, visually engaging digital content and assessments that align with college requirements and applicable standards, including accessibility, universal design principles, and regular and substantive interaction. Contributes to faculty development through one-on-one support, workshops, and self paced resources on course design, teaching with digital tools, and integration of library resources. Delivers live instruction (in-person and virtual) and develops tutorials, guides, and course embedded materials that support effective use of library resources, research skills, and information and digital literacy. Provides research and reference support to help patrons locate, evaluate, and use library resources, including databases and online tools. Refers advanced research needs to the Library Manager or librarians as appropriate. Assists with access services, including circulation, course reserves, interlibrary loan and intercampus sharing, and patron account assistance. Provides user support and troubleshooting and assists with the administration of library and instructional technologies. Contributes to daily operations, including opening and closing as scheduled, promoting accessibility, maintaining a welcoming environment, and communicating library policies. Engages ongoing professional development to stay current with trends in instructional design, academic librarianship, or instructional technology, as applicable. Performs other duties assigned by the Dean of Digital Learning and Cisco Campus Library Manager to support college goals, digital teaching and learning, and library services.

Essential Qualifications: Masters degree required, with one of the following combinations: o MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program and demonstrated instructional design experience (certificate, coursework, or professi nal practice); or o Masters in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Educational Technology, Learning Sciences, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field and demonstrated experience supporting library services and/or instruction in research, information literacy, and digital literacy. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with faculty and staff in support of student learning. Experience supporting digital learning platforms and tools, including user support and basic troubleshooting. Experience delivering instruction, training, or user support (in-person and/or virtual). Effective verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, including accurate recordkeeping and file management. Ability to work independently, prioritize competing needs in a public-service setting, and maintain professionalism under pressure. Availability to work evenings and/or weekends and travel to Abilene, as needed and as scheduled.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a community college, academic library, or higher education teaching and learning support setting. Experience supporting online and/or dual credit students and instructors. Experience supporting library access services (circulation, course reserves, interlibrary loan) and/or instructional technology administration/support. Experience developing student-facing learning resources (tutorials, guides, videos, or course-embedded materials). Familiarity with accessibility and UDL practices for digital course materials. Experience using analytics or feedback to improve instruction or services. Familiarity with OER, copyright considerations, and generative AI in teaching and learning
