Position Summary:
Northwest Florida Community Hospital is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Clinic Biller/Coder to join our team. This position is responsible for accurate coding, billing, and claims processing for clinic services to ensure timely reimbursement and compliance with federal regulations and payer requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of medical terminology, coding systems, and insurance billing procedures.
Responsible for all activities in the Clinic accounts receivable function. Manages billing and collection activities such as sending follow-up inquiries, negotiating with past due accounts, and referring accounts to collection agencies. Codes and sequences all diagnoses and procedures using established ICD-10-CM coding rules for each patient encounter; coding will be subject to accuracy and productivity rates as determined by department manager. Maintains accurate records. Audits methods and procedures of accounts receivable function to improve efficiency and cash flow. Ensure maximum cash collection and consistent cash flow.
Key Responsibilities:
Assign appropriate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for clinic services and procedures
Prepare and submit insurance claims to commercial payers, Medicare, and Medicaid
Review patient charts and documentation to ensure accurate coding and compliance
Resolve billing discrepancies, claim rejections, and denials in a timely manner
Follow up on outstanding accounts receivable and unpaid claims
Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and healthcare billing guidelines
Communicate with providers, clinic staff, and insurance companies regarding billing questions
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding updates and regulatory changes
Assist with patient billing questions and payment processing when needed
Support the clinic revenue cycle process to promote accurate and timely reimbursement
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Minimum 1–2 years of medical billing and/or coding experience, preferably in a clinic or physician practice setting
Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
Experience working with electronic medical records (EMR) and billing systems
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Education, Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:
Certification such as CPC (Certified Professional Coder), CCS, or CBCS preferred
Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance billing
Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy
Schedule:
Full-time position. Monday – Friday, day shift.
Work Environment:
This position is based in a hospital setting and requires frequent computer use, reviewing medical documentation, and communicating with staff and patients.
