Blaine County Seasonal Mosquito Control Sprayer(s) in Chinook, Montana

POSITION:Seasonal Mosquito Control SprayerDEPARTMENT: Blaine County Mosquito and Weed DepartmentACCOUNTABLE TO:Blaine County Mosquito and Weed Control Supervisor Summary of Work: To perform field tasks and technical duties in mosquito control management to meet the goals of the County Management Plan. Work commences June 1 terminates end of September.Knowledge and Skills:·The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.·Working knowledge of weed identification·Interpret aerial photographs and topographic maps.·Knowledge of mosquito management methods including herbicides, insect control, biological methods, and cultural methods.·Working knowledge of sprayer equipment operation and calibration; be able to perform light maintenance of equipment.·Understand pesticide safety and handling.·Ability to drive a one-ton truck with a manual transmission·Operate UTV (side by side) spray units safely·Ability to present self to the public in a courteous manner.·Basic knowledge of GPS/GIS·Must have a valid Montana Driver's License.·Must be 18 years or older.Education and Experience: The above knowledge and skills are typically acquired through a combination of education and work experience. Additional classes in agriculture, plant biology, herbicide safety and handling, and related fields preferred.·Attend pesticide safety and handling course (or correspondence course)sponsored by the County or State Agency.Job Duties and Requirements:•Work as part of a TEAM with other district employees on conducting weed/mosquito management activities.·Complete tasks assigned by immediate supervisor·Mix pesticides and herbicides from concentrated materials·Operate application equipment, two-way radio, GPS navigation equipment, hand and vehicle mounted sprayers.·Must be able to work in variable weather conditions·Must be able to lift 50 lbs.·Treat noxious weeds/mosquitos within the County in accordance with the County Weed/Mosquito Management Plan and environmental assessment.·Maintain a professional image with the public.·Document and file daily application progress for reports·Notify field supervisor of problems or deficiencies encountered·Clean trucks, containers, and chemical storage areas·Perform other related duties as required.·Traverse a wide range of physical conditions that include walking long distances, steep and challenging terrain, muddy, wet, and slippery footingJob Performance Standards: This position will be evaluated by the Blaine County Mosquito and Weed Control Supervisor based on performance of duties and requirements listed above.·Perform assigned duties·Ensure weed/mosquito management activities are conducted safely and in accordance with County, State, and Federal regulations.·Properly clean and maintain equipment·Demonstrate sound judgment in making decisions·Attend training sessions as required·Prepare and submit accurate and timely reports·Effectively handle public questions and concerns regarding County weed/mosquito management efforts in a professional courteous manner·Follow safety procedures in storage and handling of pesticides and equipment·Observe work hours and demonstrate punctuality·Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors and the public·Keep the working area; outside and inside of headquarters clean and presentable to the public.·Work flexible hours.PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS:Sitting, standing, walking, driving, climbing ladders, squatting/kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, and lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs. multiple times per shift, and occasionally must life and/or move up to 50 lbs.WORKING CONDITIONS:Spends time indoors and outdoors, with possibility of exposure to hot or cold temperatures for one (1) hour plus. Possible exposure to distracting/uncomfortable noise levels. Risk of bodily injury from mechanical parts, etc. Possible exposure to fumes, odors, etc. that may affect respiration and skin.
