Responsibilities
In accordance with California Business and Professions Code §1269 and applicable CLIA regulations, non-certified or unlicensed personnel—including Histotechnicians, Histotechnologists, and non-certified Pathologists’ Assistants—may perform gross examination and other histologic duties under direct and constant supervision by the Laboratory Director or a licensed designee.
These individuals must meet the minimum qualifications for high-complexity testing and demonstrate competency prior to performing delegated tasks. Gross dissection and related specimen handling must occur only under the physical presence of a supervising pathologist. Non-dissection tasks may be supervised remotely where appropriate.
Responsibilities for Histotechnicians may include, but are not limited to:
Preparation of tissue and fluid specimens for microscopic evaluation through microtomy, special staining, histochemistry, and related techniques in accordance with laboratory protocols.
Proficiency in specimen processing, embedding, sectioning, and handling of all tissue and body fluid types.
Performance of routine and special stains, as well as immunohistochemical staining where applicable.
Proper use, cleaning, and maintenance of histology instruments and equipment.
Maintenance of procedure manuals, logs, quality records, and departmental documentation.
Accessioning specimens, labeling slides, and supporting pathologists in diagnostic workflows.
Performing additional responsibilities as assigned by the department manager or director.
All duties must be carried out under applicable regulatory standards, ensuring accuracy, safety, and compliance at all times.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Minimum 1 year experience as a Histotechnician (Non-Certified) required

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $21.00 to $29.60. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
