Senior Structural Engineer – Team Lead

Location: Surrey, Vancouver or Chilliwack, BC

Reports To: Structural Discipline Lead

Job Summary

Ecora is seeking a highly experienced Senior Structural Engineer – Team Lead to lead the design and delivery of structural engineering projects across a diverse portfolio of building and infrastructure developments.

In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership, overseeing project execution, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, code-compliant designs. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, sound engineering judgment, and proven experience managing projects from concept through construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the structural design and analysis of building and infrastructure projects using appropriate engineering principles and software

  • Prepare and review structural calculations, reports, specifications, and design documentation

  • Oversee the development of structural drawings and ensure alignment with design intent

  • Act as Engineer of Record (EOR) where applicable, including signing and sealing of design documents

  • Manage projects from conceptual design through detailed design, tendering, and construction phases

  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including architectural, mechanical, civil, and geotechnical disciplines

  • Act as the primary point of contact for key clients, ensuring their needs are met and expectations exceeded.

  • Identify new business opportunities and lead the preparation of technical proposals and fee estimates.

  • Represent the firm at industry events and maintain a strong professional network to support business development efforts.

  • Review and respond to shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals during construction

  • Conduct site visits, field reviews, and provide construction support as required

  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, standards, and regulatory requirements

  • Support Project Managers with project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and client communication

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships and contribute to business development efforts

  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and technical oversight to junior engineers, technologists, and drafters

  • Review project deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and quality prior to submission

  • Identify risks and propose practical, cost-effective design solutions

  • Contribute to the development and improvement of internal standards, processes, and best practices

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in British Columbia (or eligibility for registration with EGBC)

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in structural engineering design and project delivery

  • Structural Engineer (S.E. License) through EGBC

  • Strong knowledge of structural systems including steel, concrete, wood, and masonry

  • Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., ETABS, SAP2000, SAFE, or similar)

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit; familiarity with BIM coordination is an asset

  • Thorough understanding of Canadian building codes, standards, and design practices

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong leadership, mentorship, and team collaboration skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client and stakeholder engagement

  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and sound engineering judgment

  • Experience in construction administration and field review processes

  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as required
