Job Title: Production Worker (CAT 3 Days Layup) – Layup Top Side Builder

Job Description

The Layup Top Side Builder assembles interior and exterior door components on a fast-paced production line to create high-quality finished doors. Working closely with a partner on the opposite side of the line, this role involves staging parts, accurately laying up stiles, rails, cores, and skins, applying adhesives, and preparing doors for pressing and final assembly. The position requires strong attention to detail, consistent pace, safe work practices, and a commitment to meeting quality and production targets in a custom wood manufacturing facility.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and stage door components such as stiles, rails, cores, panels, and skins for assembly on the production line.

  • Align and position components accurately on the layup table according to specific door measurements and build requirements.

  • Apply glue or adhesives to designated contact surfaces in a precise and consistent manner.

  • Fit, square, and secure components using hand tools and pneumatic tools to ensure a proper bond and structural integrity.

  • Inspect materials before and during assembly for defects, damage, or incorrect dimensions, and remove or report non-conforming parts.

  • Maintain production speed to keep pace with the moving assembly line and help achieve daily output targets.

  • Verify that assembled doors meet quality standards for alignment, thickness, squareness, and overall construction.

  • Collaborate closely with the opposite-side builder to synchronize component placement and maintain a smooth workflow.

  • Transfer completed door assemblies down the line for pressing, finishing, and subsequent production operations.

  • Perform repetitive lifting, loading, and handling of materials and door components as part of the assembly process.

  • Use tape measures accurately to verify dimensions and ensure components meet required specifications.

  • Operate basic production and assembly equipment as needed, following all safety and operating procedures.

  • Package, label, and prepare finished or semi-finished products as required for the next stage of production.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workstation to support efficient manufacturing flow and minimize hazards.

  • Follow all safety policies, use required personal protective equipment, and contribute to a safe work environment.

  • Support general labor and production tasks as assigned to meet overall plant and team objectives.

Essential Skills

  • At least 6 months of experience in general labor, construction, or production, including experience with repetitive tasks; fast-paced environments such as fast food are acceptable.

  • At least 6 months of experience using a tape measure in a work setting and working with saws or hand and power tools.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly throughout the shift.

  • Reliable transportation to and from the worksite.

  • Willingness to learn new tasks and processes in a manufacturing environment.

  • Team-oriented attitude with the ability to work closely and cooperatively with a partner and broader production team.

  • Comfort working in a production line setting with repetitive lifting, loading, and general labor tasks.

  • Basic proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and general production equipment.

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions, production specifications, and safety procedures accurately.

  • Attention to detail for measuring, aligning, and inspecting components and finished assemblies.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous machine operating experience in a manufacturing or production environment.

  • Basic equipment knowledge and the ability to perform simple troubleshooting on production machinery.

  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools, moving parts, and wood products.

  • Experience with packaging, labeling, and general production or warehouse tasks.

  • Back gorund in construction or custom wood products is an asset.

  • Ability to adapt to changing production priorities while maintaining quality and safety.

Work Environment

The role is based in a custom wood manufacturing facility with approximately 80–100 employees, including around 60 production and assembly staff and additional office personnel. The environment is a busy production floor focused on assembling doors for a range of end customers, including large retailers and construction-related companies. Work is performed on a production line using hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, tape measures, and general manufacturing equipment. The position follows a day shift schedule from Monday to Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (10-hour shifts), with mandatory overtime on alternating Fridays for approximately 5–6 hours. The facility emphasizes safety, and personal protective equipment such as ear plugs, safety glasses, and safety vests is provided. The dress code requires long pants, long-sleeve shirts, and appropriate safety footwear, with no shorts permitted. The work involves repetitive lifting and standing for extended periods in a dynamic, team-based production environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chilliwack, BC.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
