The Ross County Sheriff's Office is seeking qualified and motivated individuals to serve as a Dispatcher.

Compensation: $23.60 hourly 1st year, $25.37 hourly 2^nd^ year, $27.15 hourly 3^rd^ year

Schedule:Full Time

Work hours are to be determined: facility operates on a 24/7 schedule with shifts to include 7am -- 3pm, 3pm -- 11pm, 11pm -- 7am; may work evening, night, or rotating shift

Job Purpose:

Helps callers by routing emergency 911 calls to medical emergency services, fire, and police departments; re-routing non-emergencies to other telephone numbers.

Duties:

  • Resolves incoming calls by following standard operating procedures; obtaining pertinent information; making connection to appropriate department; continuing to obtain information.

  • Identifies callers by entering name, location, and other pertinent information into computer aided dispatching system.

  • Obtains medical emergency information by ascertaining the exact nature of the problem; determining the immediacy of need; calming the caller; encouraging the caller to remain on the line.

  • Obtains fire emergency information by determining whether people are at risk; ascertaining the nature and extent of the fire.

  • Obtains police emergency information by assessing the potential for violence and the degree of risk to public and police personnel; determining whether the crime is in progress; defining the nature of the crime; gathering accident information; determining if other emergency services are required.

  • Helps non-emergency callers by referring them to the non-emergency numbers for medical, fire, or police services.

  • Documents actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be 18 years of age, possess a valid driver's license, and a high school diploma or G.E.D.
