Volunteer and Activities Coordinator Department: Councils on Aging Employment Status: UCFW Administrative Union, Non-Exempt; Full-Time, Salary: Grade A04, Step 1,\$20.40/Hour - \$27.38/Hour Licenses/Certifications: Valid Driver\'s License SUMMARY The City of Chicopee\'s Councils on Aging Department is hiring a Volunteer & Activity Coordinator. The purpose of this position is to develop and plan activities and events for a fast-paced senior center and to recruit, train and maintain an existing volunteer program. The Volunteer & Activity Coordinator is responsible for day-to-day administration of various activities and events designed to promote the physical, social, and intellectual wellbeing of center members. This is done by promoting participation, evaluating effectiveness, and maintaining statistical data. The Volunteer & Activity Coordinator must be able to work independently and as a team and have a strong commitment to public service and a desire to meet and serve the needs of older adults. This position would be a back-up to the Program Coordinator position and would assist in the regular development of programs as needed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE Communicates, via various methods, with outside agencies to recruit volunteers for the center. Recruits and interviews prospective volunteers. Performs reference checks. Collects CORI information. Orients new volunteers and manages any issues of existing volunteers. Provides feedback and assistance to volunteers to determine and utilize their strengths. Schedules volunteers and arranges for substitutes. Maintains files and computer records of volunteers and performs data entry of volunteer hours. Maintains and updates Volunteer Handbooks. Plans and coordinates yearly volunteer appreciation event. Assists in the day-to-day volunteer activities in a fast-paced senior center working under the guidance of the Program Coordinator. Plans and execute activities for older adults in a fast-paced senior center. This may include outing in the community and a wide variety of programs in the facility such as meal and nutrition programs, health, fitness and wellness programs, social and recreational activities and information and assistance programs Duties include setting up rooms for activities and events and promoting the center?s offerings. Explain services and activities by phone and in person. Provides tours of facility Coordinates, organizes, orders supplies and maintain activity supply closet?s, art room and inventory. Works within a yearly budget and documents expenses. QUALIFICATIONS An adequate education, experience, and/or training human services, or related area of study preferred; a minimum of three years of experience in providing activities, recreation and/or social services to older adults and coordinating a volunteer program; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Driver\'s License.
