Cognizant Senior Dynatrace Engineer in Chicago, Illinois

About the role

As a Senior Dynatrace Engineer, you will make an impact by elevating system reliability, performance, and visibility across cloud and hybrid environments. You will shape monitoring strategy, optimize platform capabilities, and deliver actionable insights that enable faster issue resolution and continuous improvement. This role combines platform engineering with hands-on operational expertise to drive meaningful impact across application, infrastructure, and SRE teams. You will be a valued member of the Cloud Infrastructure and Security team and work collaboratively with the Senior Manager.

In this role, you will:

• Lead end-to-end implementation, configuration, and optimization of Dynatrace SaaS and Managed

• Define and evolve monitoring strategies including tagging, baselines, dashboards, and alerting

• Administer and enhance Dynatrace capabilities including anomaly detection, management zones, and DQL queries

• Deploy and support OneAgent across Windows, Linux, Azure virtual machines, Kubernetes AKS, and serverless environments

• Design, deploy, and operate ActiveGates for traffic routing, synthetic monitoring, and extension execution

• Build and maintain dashboards and queries to support application, platform, and operational visibility

• Perform deep-dive performance analysis using PurePath, Smartscape, and Davis AI

• Collaborate with engineering and SRE teams to troubleshoot issues, close monitoring gaps, and improve performance

• Implement and support OpenTelemetry OTEL for modern and custom workloads

• Manage integrations across ServiceNow, cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, and log sources

• Drive monitoring governance including alert noise reduction and best practices

• Conduct root cause analysis, capacity planning, and performance tuning

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 3 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Chicago, IL. What you need to have to be considered:

• 6+ years of experience in observability, monitoring, or application performance engineering

• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Dynatrace including OneAgent, ActiveGate, and platform administration

• Deep understanding of application performance monitoring (APM) concepts

• Strong experience with Dynatrace query language DQL, dashboards, and alerting configuration

• Experience supporting cloud and containerized environments including Azure, Kubernetes AKS, Windows, and Linux

• Hands-on experience implementing OpenTelemetry OTEL

• Solid understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems

• 6+ years of experience with integrations across enterprise platforms such as ServiceNow, CI/CD tools, and log sources

• Experience with scripting using Python, PowerShell, or Shell

• Ability to analyze and interpret performance metrics including CPU, memory, latency, throughput, and input and output

These will help you stand out:

• Dynatrace Associate certification required and Dynatrace Professional preferred

• Azure and or Kubernetes certifications

• Experience with synthetic monitoring, real user monitoring RUM, and digital experience monitoring DEM

• Experience supporting large-scale enterprise observability environments

Salary and Other Compensation:

Applications will be accepted until April 24, 2026.

The annual salary for this position is between $79,000 - $92,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
