Pay Range: $94,827 - $154,315 per year

Summary:

The Corporate Finance Projects and Assets Accounting Manager plays a critical role in managing the financial accounting and reporting of capital projects and fixed assets within an academic healthcare environment. This position ensures compliance with U.S. GAAP, institutional policies, and regulatory requirements, while supporting the financial stewardship of capital investments, research infrastructure, and clinical expansion projects. This position reports to the RUSH System Director of Accounting Operations. They serve as a key liaison between finance, facilities, and operations. This role must support financial integrity, oversee the Projects and Assets department, and foster collaboration across departments and facilities. This is a RUSH system-level role which encompasses RUMC (RUH, University, and Ambulatory Pharmacy), ROPH, RCMC, Rush Health, RMG, and joint ventures.

Other information:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field

• At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in fixed asset and capital project accounting within a healthcare, academic, or large nonprofit organization.

• 3+ years of direct supervisory experience, including performance management, team development, and cross-functional collaboration.

• Demonstrated experience managing capital budgets, reconciling fixed asset subledgers, and ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP. [SC1.1][AR1.2]

• Hands-on experience with ERP systems such as Lawson and Workday, including asset tagging, depreciation runs, and reconciliation reporting. [SC2.1][AR2.2]

• Proven track record of supporting external audits, preparing schedules, and maintaining documentation for audit readiness.

• Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy.

• Effective communication, organizational skills, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines

• Familiarity with ASC 360, ASC 450, and ASC 958-605 standards related to property, contingencies, and donor-funded capital assets.

Preferred Job Qualifications:

• Experience working with Facilities, IT, Research Administration, and Sponsored Programs to ensure accurate asset tracking and reporting. [SC3.1][AR3.2]

Responsibilities:

Capital Project Accounting:

• Oversee accounting for construction, renovation, and IT infrastructure projects across hospital and academic facilities.

• Collaborate with Facilities, Research Administration, and IT to ensure accurate tracking of project costs and funding sources (e.g., grants, philanthropy, debt).

• Ensure compliance with GAAP, particularly:

o ASC 360 – Property, Plant, and Equipment

o ASC 450 – Contingencies (for project risks and obligations)

o ASC 958-605 – Contributions Received and Made (for donor-funded capital)

• Monitor project budgets, commitments, and actuals; ensure timely capitalization and closeout.

Fixed Assets Management:

• Demonstrates advanced knowledge of fixed asset accounting principles, including asset classification, depreciation methodologies, and disposal procedures.

• Performs monthly and quarterly reconciliations between the fixed asset subledger and general ledger, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with U.S. GAAP and institutional policies.

• Identifies and resolves discrepancies related to asset acquisitions, transfers, retirements, and impairments.

• Collaborates with Biomedical Engineering, IT, and Facilities to validate asset records and ensure proper tagging and tracking.

• Utilizes ERP systems such as Lawson and Workday to manage asset data and generate reconciliation reports.

• Perform monthly depreciation runs and reconcile to the general ledger.

• Ensure lease related assets under ASC 842 are properly recognized, amortized and monitored."

Grants & Restricted Asset Oversight:

• Partner with Sponsored Programs to ensure proper accounting for capital assets purchased with federal or restricted funds.

Audit & Compliance:

• Prepare audit schedules and respond to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders and auditors

• Supports audit readiness by maintaining detailed reconciliation documentation and responding to internal and external audit inquiries.

• Maintain strong internal controls over asset and project accounting processes.

Employee Management & Leadership:

• Oversees the Projects and Assets Accounting team, consisting of 4 FTEs, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance management to ensure high standards of accuracy and accountability.

• Establishes clear goals and expectations aligned with RUSH’s financial stewardship and compliance standards.

• Fosters a collaborative and inclusive team culture that supports cross-functional coordination with Facilities, IT, Research Administration, and Finance.

• Conducts regular check-ins, performance reviews, and professional development planning for direct reports.

• Ensures adequate training and documentation for fixed asset processes, ERP systems (Lawson, Workday), and reconciliation protocols.

• Promotes continuous improvement and innovation in accounting operations, encouraging staff to identify process efficiencies and automation opportunities.

System & Data Management

• Generate standard dashboards and reports for leadership review and awareness, and regular communication tools
