Robert Half Human Resources (HR) Manager in Chicago, Illinois
Description We are looking for an experienced Human Resources (HR) Manager to join our team on a contract basis in Chicago, Illinois. This role offers an opportunity to work within a nonprofit organization, supporting a diverse workforce of employees, interns, volunteers, and contractors. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in employee relations, union negotiations, and payroll operations, while demonstrating a proactive and customer-focused approach to HR management.
Responsibilities:
• Manage employee relations, addressing concerns and resolving workplace issues to maintain a positive and productive environment.
• Provide support for union-related activities, including negotiations and ensuring compliance with union agreements.
• Assist with payroll processes by handling backend HR functions and collaborating with the finance team for accurate execution.
• Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations, supporting audits and gathering necessary documentation.
• Oversee HR operations such as onboarding, benefits administration, and general coordination of HR functions.
• Act as a strategic partner to the HR Director, taking on mid-level tasks and responsibilities to enable the Director to focus on higher priorities.
• Support HRIS operations, ensuring accurate data management and reporting.
• Engage employees and foster a culture of service excellence to enhance workforce satisfaction and retention.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align HR strategies with organizational goals.
• Research and recommend improvements to HR practices and processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Requirements • Proven experience in employee relations, with the ability to handle complex workplace issues independently.
• Familiarity with union environments and experience managing union-related activities.
• Knowledge of payroll operations, specifically backend HR functions, and collaboration with finance teams.
• Strong understanding of compliance requirements, including audits and documentation management.
• Proficiency in HRIS systems and HR administration tools.
• Experience in onboarding and benefits management.
• Customer-focused mindset with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating adaptability and resilience.
