Robert Half Human Resources (HR) Assistant in Chicago, Illinois

Description We are looking for an organized and adaptable Human Resources (HR) Assistant to join a non-profit organization in Chicago, Illinois. This contract position is ideal for someone with a strong background in HR administration and compliance, particularly I-9 processes and onboarding. The role requires a detail-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can pivot seamlessly between tasks.

Responsibilities:

• Manage the onboarding process, ensuring compliance with I-9 documentation and procedures.

• Utilize HRIS systems, such as Paylocity, to maintain accurate employee records and streamline administrative tasks.

• Collaborate with payroll and benefits specialists to support the HR team in delivering consistent services.

• Assist in bringing on interns and project-based team members, ensuring union-related requirements are met.

• Maintain organizational consistency in HR processes and documentation.

• Provide administrative support to the HR director and Chief HR Officer.

• Adapt quickly to changing priorities and pivot tasks as needed.

• Ensure compliance with all HR policies and guidelines, including background checks and employee relations.

• Support the development and implementation of HR initiatives and systems as required.

• Maintain a detail-oriented approach and business casual demeanor in all interactions. Requirements • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in an HR administrative support role.

• Proficiency with HRIS systems, preferably Paylocity.

• Strong understanding of onboarding processes and I-9 compliance.

• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Adaptability and flexibility to handle shifting priorities.

• Knowledge of compliance functions and employee relations.

• Familiarity with procedures for verifying candidate information.
