TEKsystems Data Center Engineer in Chicago, Illinois
Description
We are seeking a reliable, hands‑on Data Center Lead/Engineer to support ongoing build‑outs in data center facilities. This role is critical as we receive and install large volumes of incoming equipment, build out cage and office space, and prepare for major infrastructure transitions over the next two years. The ideal candidate is trainable, experienced in data center environments, and able to respond quickly to on-site needs. Large project phases will have additional team members flown in for support. Engineer will have a technician onsite to help them locally and they will act as the resource in Chicago.
Key Responsibilities:
Equipment Intake & Asset Management
Receive incoming equipment shipments on-site (no dock or storage available).
Unbox, inspect, and move pallets and hardware into designated office space.
Log and track all equipment in asset management systems.
Stage equipment for installation and ensure accurate record-keeping.
Installation & Build-Out Support
Rack and stack incoming hardware within data center cage space (approx. 60 racks).
Perform cabling, wiring, labeling, and infrastructure setup.
Operational Support
Serve as on-site smart‑hands support during business hours.
Respond to issues within 45–60 minutes when on call.
Provide local troubleshooting and hands-on assistance as needed.
Work closely with remote teams; escalate issues appropriately.
Support visiting project and engineering teams during major build phases.
Collaborate with the colocation provider regarding building access and security.
Follow all site protocols for environmental management, access control, and safety.
Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of office and cage areas.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
