Job Title: Construction Project Engineer

Job Description

As a Construction Project Engineer, you will support the Project Manager and Superintendent in planning, scheduling, and documentation. This entry-level position is perfect for someone eager to learn and grow in the field of construction project management.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Project Manager and Superintendent with project planning, scheduling, and documentation.

  • Set up and maintain project management systems such as Procore.

  • Assist with obtaining permits, managing purchase and award schedules, and handling change orders and work orders.

  • Participate in pre-construction and project meetings, recording and distributing meeting minutes.

  • Update project schedules, material status reports, and delivery tracking.

  • Maintain and manage project documentation, including drawings, specifications, and engineering logs.

  • Distribute revised construction documents and manage file control.

  • Assist with monthly reports, cost reporting, and change management systems.

  • Support quality control efforts, payment application reviews, punch lists, and project closeout.

  • Participate in lessons learned and final project reporting.

  • Perform additional duties as needed.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.

  • 2-3 years of related project engineer experience with a construction or construction management firm.

  • Working knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings and specifications, and building materials.

  • Ability to assume responsibility and interface well with the Project Team.

  • Exceptional customer service and leadership skills.

  • Experience in data entry, specifically submittals and RFIs.

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Problem-solving skills and ability to drive process improvement.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management is a plus but not required.

  • Healthcare project experience is advantageous.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid role with a 50/50 split between office and job site responsibilities. Time on site will be spent in a construction trailer or on-site project office. The environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with frequent participation in coordination meetings, project startup meetings, and foreman meetings. You will be part of a collaborative management team consisting of 4–7 team members, working on projects located throughout the Greater Chicago area.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Chicago, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $36.06 - $40.87/hr.
