Job Description
We’re looking for a driven Construction Engineer to lead on-site oversight of active construction projects and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in full alignment with project specifications. In this role, you’ll manage daily field operations, coordinate closely with contractors and project stakeholders, and serve as a key communicator with county and DOT clients. You’ll conduct field inspections, interpret engineering plans, track progress, maintain accurate documentation, and help keep projects on schedule and within budget—all while upholding the highest standards of quality and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
Provide on-site oversight and management of construction projects.
Monitor project compliance with specifications, schedules, and budgets.
Coordinate with contractors, clients, and project stakeholders.
Conduct field inspections and prepare detailed reports.
Review and interpret engineering plans and specifications.
Ensure adherence to safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Support project documentation and progress tracking.
Communicate effectively with county and Department of Transportation (DOT) clients.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management
Minimum of 2 years of experience with Tollway or IDOT projects
Familiarity with project documentation, record-keeping, and compliance tracking
Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and work independently when needed
Valid U.S. driver’s license
Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
Work Environment
The work environment offers flexibility to engage in both field and office work or focus solely on office duties as a documentation technician. Opportunities are available for hybrid roles, allowing a split between office and field work. The team works on IDOT/Tollway projects, comprising 10 bridge projects, and includes a director of the construction engineering team, resident engineers, and a team of 3 to 4 inspectors. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $61651.00 - $98737.60/yr.
