Associate Attorney – Civil Litigation (No Billable Requirement / Chicago Office)
A leading Chicago-based litigation firm is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to join its growing civil litigation defense team. This role offers an opportunity to work on complex litigation matters in a collaborative, supportive environment—without billable hour requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
· Handle all aspects of civil litigation, including product liability defense, from pre-litigation assessment through trial.
· Take and defend depositions; manage written discovery and case evaluation.
· Draft pleadings, motions, legal memoranda, and settlement agreements.
· Represent clients in court proceedings: hearings, status calls, pretrials, trials, and mediations.
· Communicate directly with clients, opposing counsel, and court, providing litigation updates and case evaluations.
· Collaborate efficiently with partners, associates, and support staff while helping develop case management systems.
Requirements
Qualifications:
· Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
· Active Illinois bar license (additional state licenses a plus).
· 5–7 years of civil defense litigation experience (product liability background preferred).
· Proven record taking/defending depositions, conducting discovery, and managing all phases of defense litigation.
· Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
· Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple cases with limited supervision.
· Previous trial and ADR experience highly valued.
· Additional experience in personal injury, civil rights litigation, mass torts, or medical malpractice is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits:
· Salary: $110,000–$175,000, based on experience.
· Year-end discretionary bonus.

· No billable hour requirements.
