Med-Metrix Junior Data Engineer in Chennai, India
Job Purpose
The Junior Data Engineer supports the design, development, and maintenance of data pipelines and infrastructure that enables the Denials AI workflow under the guidance of the Team Lead, Data Management and Senior Data Engineers. This role assists in ensuring data is reliable, compliant with HIPAA, and properly processed.
Duties & Responsibilities
Assist senior engineers in building, testing, and maintaining ETL/ELT data pipelines using Python and SQL
Support data ingestion from various sources (APIs, databases, flat files, third-party systems) under guidance
Clean, transform, and validate data to ensure accuracy and consistency across datasets
Help maintain data tables and schemas in PostgreSQL; write basic SQL queries for data retrieval
Monitor data pipeline runs and escalate issues to senior engineers when anomalies are detected
Assist with documentation of data workflows, schemas, and pipeline configurations
Participate in code reviews and team knowledge-sharing sessions to develop technical skills
Other duties as assigned
Use, protect and disclose patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
Understand and comply with Information Security and HIPAA policies and procedures at all times
Limit viewing of PHI to the absolute minimum as necessary to perform assigned duties
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
0-2 years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, or a related technical role
Exposure to ETL concepts and willingness to learn workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Dagster, Airflow)
Basic SQL skills; ability to write simple queries and understand table relationships
Awareness of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) and willingness to learn data services
Basic proficiency in Python; familiarity with data libraries (e.g., Pandas) is a plus
Familiarity with version control concepts (e.g., Git/GitHub)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate well at all levels of the organization
Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses
High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results oriented
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
Gracious and welcoming personality for customer service interaction
Working Conditions
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to move around the work area; Sit; perform manual tasks; operate tools and other office equipment such as computer, computer peripherals and telephones; extend arms; kneel; talk and hear.
Mental Demands: The employee must be able to follow directions, collaborate with others, and handle stress.
Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
Working hours - 6 PM - 3 AM IST
