Job Summary

Responsible for designing, building and overseeing the deployment and operation of technology architecture, solutions and software to capture, manage, store and utilize structured and unstructured data from internal and external sources. Establishes and builds processes and structures based on business and technical requirements to channel data from multiple inputs, route appropriately and store using any combination of distributed (cloud) structures, local databases, and other applicable storage forms as required. Develops technical tools and programming that leverage artificial intelligence, machine learning and big-data techniques to cleanse, organize and transform data and to maintain, defend and update data structures and integrity on an automated basis. Creates and establishes design standards and assurance processes for software, systems and applications development to ensure compatibility and operability of data connections, flows and storage requirements. Reviews internal and external business and product requirements for data operations and activity and suggests changes and upgrades to systems and storage to accommodate ongoing needs. Work with data modelers/analysts to understand the business problems they are trying to solve then create or augment data assets to feed their analysis. Integrates knowledge of business and functional priorities. Acts as a key contributor in a complex and crucial environment. May lead teams or projects and shares expertise.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain secure data ingestion pipelines leveraging technologies such as Vector, Syslog, and serverless functions (AWS Lambda).

  • Develop automation and software solutions to ensure reliable, scalable, and secure data flow into SIEM, analytics, and reporting platforms.

  • Support and maintain Splunk as the enterprise SIEM platform, including onboarding new data sources and ensuring data quality.

  • Provide engineering guidance for security data collection and integration across NBCUniversal’s diverse business entities.

  • Maintain and support Linux-based infrastructure and containerized services for data ingestion and processing.

  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure platform reliability and performance; provide technical support for ingestion-related and Splunk-related issues.

  • Provide excellent support and service to other teams that rely on security data systems – help share knowledge, and assist in creation and management of dashboards, alerts, reports, and other knowledge objects.

  • Create and maintain detailed documentation, diagrams, and standard operating procedures for platform components.

  • Participate in on-call rotation for critical system support and maintenance outside normal business hours.

  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to building a strong engineering culture within the team.

  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment using strong organizational skills to meet deliverables.

REQUIREMENTS:

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity engineering, data engineering, or related fields.

  • Strong Linux administration skills, including troubleshooting, performance tuning, and automation.

  • Proficiency in Python, Bash, or similar scripting languages for automation and data processing.

  • Experience building and managing data pipelines and streaming platforms (e.g., Vector, Logstash, Kafka).

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure) and serverless technologies (AWS Lambda, Azure Functions).

  • Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software development best practices.

  • Hands-on experience with Splunk (administration, data onboarding, troubleshooting) – but not as the primary focus.

  • Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CodePipeline).

  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Highly collaborative and able to work across teams; strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • A deep understanding of SIEM security principles and how to apply them.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet).

  • Familiarity with event-driven architecture and asynchronous programming patterns.

  • Exposure to big data and analytics platforms (Databricks, Snowflake).

  • Experience with syslog-ng or rsyslog configuration and management.

  • Understanding of security principles and data protection in distributed systems.

  • Knowledge of observability tools (Datadog or similar).

  • Familiarity with ML/AI concepts and data analytics workflows.

  • Splunk certifications (Admin or Architect) are a plus, but not required.
