Description
Robert Half Permanent Placement is seeking a detail-oriented Project Accountant to support financial operations for a commercial HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical contractor in the Cheektowaga / Buffalo area. This role is responsible for project-level accounting, including payroll processing, accounts payable/receivable, and general accounting functions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance across multiple active jobs. Starting salary is $55,000 - $60,000 based on experience and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
Responsibilities include but not limited to
Process weekly payroll for 150+ employee timecards, ensuring accuracy and compliance
Assist with accounts payable including invoice entry, coding, and vendor payments
Assist with accounts receivable, including billing, collections, and cash application
Track and maintain job costs, budgets, and project financial reporting
Assist with month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting
Review and verify job-related expenses, subcontractor invoices, and change orders
Maintain accurate financial records and support audit requests as needed
Collaborate with project managers to ensure alignment on budgets and cost tracking
Utilize Excel for reporting, data analysis, and financial tracking
Requirements
2+ years of accounting experience in construction or project-based environments required. Construction / Home Services experience highly preferred
Experience processing high-volume payroll (100+ timecards preferred)
Strong knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting principles
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required
Experience with Sage 300 (or similar ERP system) highly preferred
Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
