BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee AI Engineer - Evaluation Analytics in Chattanooga, Tennessee

We are hiring an AI Engineer at BCBST!

In this role, you will design and implement AI-driven solutions that automate and enhance business and clinical processes, with a strong focus on scaling and operationalizing our Clinical ROI methodology. You’ll work closely with business partners, clinical leaders, and technical teams to translate complex data and AI models into clear, actionable insights that inform decision-making around program effectiveness, cost efficiency, and patient outcomes. Your work will directly support how the organization measures value, improves performance, and makes strategic investments across clinical initiatives.

To be successful in this role, in addition to the core job requirements, you’ll bring hands-on experience applying AI or machine learning to real-world business problems. You will be a strong candidate if you have experience automating business practices using AI, leading or contributing to an AI-driven education or enablement project within an organization, and clearly explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Strong communication skills and the ability to bridge technical and business perspectives are critical for success in this role.

Note:

  • This is a remote, work-from-home position; however, the final round of interviews will take place on-site in our Chattanooga, TN office.
  • Candidates must be able to work aligned to Eastern Standard Time (EST) hours.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ideate, develop and productionalize AI solutions for healthcare payer use cases.
  • Design and implement state-of-the-art AI models and algorithms using Python and GCP Vertex AI.
  • Collaborate with product teams to identify opportunities for applying AI techniques to solve business challenges and automate processes.
  • Conduct research and stay up to date with the latest advancements in AI, continuously improving our techniques and methodologies.
  • Develop scalable and efficient code base for deploying AI models into production environments.
  • Work closely with our internal Lines-of-Businesses to understand their needs, gather requirements, and translate them into actionable insights and solutions.
  • Lead the evaluation and validation of AI models, ensuring their accuracy, reliability, and performance meet business requirements.
  • Communicate findings, results, and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders through presentations, reports, and documentation.

Job Qualifications

Education

  • Master'sdegree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) or related field or equivalent work experience required. Master’s and/or PhD degree a plus.

Experience

  • 3 years of relevant work experience in analytics, technology, or healthcare (academic experience included), or related equivalent experience.
  • 1 year experience with machine learning or advanced statistical methods is required.
  • Experience handling large datasets to build data science pipelines.
  • Experience with Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Pytorch, Natural Language Processing.

Skills\Certifications

  • Proficient in Python
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Proven analysis, design, and coding skills, and demonstrated success in leading large and complex projects
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and translate technical and/or or complex concepts into information meaningful to project team members and/or business personnel
  • Leadership skills
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical co-workers
  • Be organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple tasks with exceptional work ethic.
