Location Description

Responsibilities

Northern Star Co., part of the Michael Foods family of businesses, seeks a Food Safety Quality (FSQ) Supervisor in Chaska, MN to provide support and assistance to the Chaska, MN Food Safety and Quality Department. This position: coordinates and supervises all department functions in a fair and consistent manner; recognizes problem situations and takes appropriate steps to resolve them; complies with safety work rules; reinforces safety as a core value; and ensures that all policies, procedures and activities related to Food Safety and Quality are followed and complied with uniformly to reduce product and process variability.

The specific duties include:

  • Assume technical responsibilities including operating various FSQ equipment on the floor for monitoring production, sanitation, and office equipment as necessary to ensure production schedules are met;

  • Maintain FSQ standards within the facility;

  • Coach employees regarding problems encountered in daily operations;

  • Maintain communication with various individuals concerning status of production process and sample collection;

  • Supervise employees by scheduling work assignments, hiring, evaluating performance, etc.;

  • Lead and coordinate the personnel who perform the inspection and sampling of ingredients and final products by making sure inspections are done correctly, at the correct frequency, and correct decisions are made;

  • Ensure quality hold activities are performed and reported in a proficient manner (includes corrective action reporting and documentation);

  • Ensure raw materials and finished products hold and release in a timely manner;

  • Ensure quality and production records are legible, accurate, complete, maintained, and easily retrieved;

  • Update and maintain facility batch and quality related records as necessary;

  • Update quality related manuals as required (customer specific documentation, labels, etc.);

  • Maintain raw material, in-process, and finished product retention program;

  • Complete and submit specification change requests as necessary;

  • Verify adequate inventories as necessary (sampling containers and equipment, etc.);

  • Monitor and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) i.e. Corrective Action, and Verification/Validation Databases;

  • Prepare and issue reports as required;

  • Assume personal responsibility to ensure safe and healthy workplace for everyone;

  • Adhere to all safety policies & procedures and incorporates safety and health in all jobs and tasks;

  • Adhere to Quality work practices, follow GMP’s, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained;

  • Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality;

  • Ensure regulatory compliance at all times;

  • Validate, review, and maintain the Food Safety Plan, including hazard analysis and preventive controls;

  • Oversee and verify the effectiveness of monitoring procedures, corrective actions, and verification activities, ensuring they are properly documented and executed;

  • Review production records, environmental monitoring data, and deviation reports to ensure compliance and initiate follow-ups as needed;

  • Conduct validation verification activities to confirm that all preventive controls are effective as intended; and

  • Perform environmental and cultural swabbing, and initiate, investigate, and document corrective actions when deviations are identified.

Qualifications

The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a closely related science degree, or foreign equivalent degree. We require two years of work experience in food processing with responsibilities in food safety/quality and production. This must include at least one year of utilizing the requirements of HACCP, FSMA, GMP, OSHA, USDA and the FDA to ensure compliance and also implementing/managing food safety and quality programs, utilizing continuous improvement and lean manufacturing techniques and principles. Experience may be gained concurrently. Salary: $87,402 per year with benefits including insurance (medical, dental, vision), paid time off, flexible schedules, 401k, and more.
