University of Virginia Pharmacy Technician 2 - Inpatient Pharmacy in Charlottesville, Virginia
These roles are responsible for the administration, preparation, dispensing, and management of medications and other health products to ensure safe and effective patient care. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians work in various settings, including pharmacies, the UVA hospitals, clinics, and research facilities.
These roles are responsible for assisting pharmacists in the preparation, dispensing, and management of medications and supporting pharmacy operations. Responsible for tasks such as filling prescriptions, maintaining medication inventory, and processing insurance claims, ensuring that pharmacy operations run smoothly and efficiently under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

About the Department
UVA Health’s Inpatient Pharmacy serves an average daily census of 528 patients across the hospital. Our pharmacy technicians are essential to the safe and timely delivery of medications, working under the supervision of licensed pharmacists or independent practitioners.
What We Do
Pharmacy Technicians in this department:
Prepare and label medications for inpatient use
Deliver medications directly to nursing units and patient care areas
Support clinical workflows and medication safety protocols
Collaborate with pharmacists to ensure accuracy and efficiency
Note: Sterile compounding is performed in a newly renovated, state-of-the-art IV clean room. Technician roles within the IV Room will be described separately.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent
Experience: 6 months minimum relevant experience
Licensure/Certifications: Commonwealth of Virginia Pharmacy Technician Registration required. CPhT credential through National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required. For team members hired prior to February 1, 2020, certification as CPhT through NHA or PTCB is required by January 31, 2022.
Physical Demands – Job requires standing for prolonged periods. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull less than 20lbs.
Onboarding Requirements
Background checks and pre-employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety-sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen.
The starting base rate for this role is $20.68 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
