Job Summary:
The Sustainability Specialist will support the Waste Programs Manager in the day‑to‑day execution, expansion, and continuous improvement of Compass Group’s kitchen waste tracking program, Waste Not 2.0, and various waste reduction initiatives, including food recovery. This role supports Waste Not 2.0 and food recovery program deployments, training, user management and support, billing, and cross‑sector coordination to ensure successful adoption and ongoing performance across the business. The role also supports limited reporting, data analysis, and maintenance of internal trackers to communicate program status, impact, and opportunities for improvement.
Responsibilities:
Waste Not 2.0
Support the deployment and expansion of the Waste Not 2.0 program across Compass Group sectors by coordinating onboarding activities, including account setup, tablet and mobile technology readiness, and launch support.
Lead training efforts for Waste Not 2.0, including delivering virtual trainings for new deployments and refresher sessions, maintaining and updating training materials, and supporting a scalable train‑the‑trainer approach.
Act as the primary point of contact for Waste Not 2.0 user support by responding to user questions and help desk tickets within established timelines and partnering with the Waste Not 2.0 Product Owner to troubleshoot platform issues and enhancement requests.
Collaborate with sector representatives and internal partners to gather user feedback, identify adoption challenges, and recommend operational or platform adjustments to improve usability and engagement.
Collect, organize, and analyze waste tracking data to support program insights and impact communication, including assisting with limited reporting on participation, trends, and sustainability outcomes.
Maintain internal trackers and deployment tools to monitor program progress, account status, training completion, and support needs, ensuring accurate and up‑to‑date information is available for internal coordination and reporting.
Food Recovery
Maintain food recovery trackers and deployment tools to monitor program progress, account status, and support needs, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information is available for internal coordination and reporting.
Oversee the new user registration process for the food recovery platform including reviewing registrations, submitting weekly registration updates, sending welcome emails with resources, and answering users’ follow-up questions.
Act as the primary point of contact for food recovery platform user support by monitoring the help email, responding to user questions within established timelines, and partnering with the external food recovery platform team to troubleshoot platform issues.
Collect and format donation data for use in the annual report, sustainability report, and by the tax team.
Support the creation of food recovery resources and continuous improvement of the program.
Qualifications:
Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Ability to perform quality work within deadlines, with or without direct supervision
Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments
Strong oral and written communication skills, including clearly sharing difficult concepts for a variety of skill levels both in-person and remotely via phone or video conference
Passion for sustainability and food waste reduction
Familiarity with the food service or restaurant industry preferred;
Familiarity and experience with data management and analytics preferred
Other Qualifications:
Language Skills : Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports & case studies, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
