Wells Fargo Software Engineering Senior Manager in CHARLOTTE, North Carolina

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a highly skilled Software Engineering Senior Manager to join our dynamic Merchant Services team within Consumer Technology and lead the teams with the design & development of our next-generation Merchant acquiring and payments for Merchant Data Products and Platform.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team or teams of experienced engineers in roles with moderate complexity and risk, responsible for excellence across a high‑scale, regulated data landscape that supports data products for authorizations, settlement, reconciliation, disputes/chargebacks, risk, finance, and merchant analytics.

  • You will “lean in” architecturally driving data landscape simplification, influencing target‑state design, and ensuring the team delivers secure, reliable, and cost‑efficient data solutions that meet stringent NFRs (availability, performance, resiliency, cost) and regulatory standards

  • Ensure adherence to the Banking Platform Architecture and meeting non-functional requirements with each release.

  • Design, develop, and deploy API based Java-based applications using Microservices architecture.

  • Implement proactive observability and logging strategies to allow for seamless issue detection and troubleshooting across the platforms.

  • Ensure data security and governance standards are met with the platform.

  • Identify and recommend opportunities for driving escalated resolution of technology roadblocks including code, build and deployment while also managing overall software development cycle and security standards.

  • Build engineering skills side-by-side in the codebase, conduct peer reviews to evaluate quality and solution alignment to technical direction, and guide design, as needed.

  • Collaborate with, partner with and influence Product Managers/Product Owners to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements and priorities in the product roadmap, promote innovative and intelligent solutions, generate corporate value and articulate technical strategy while being a solid advocate of agile and DevOps practices.

  • Interact directly with third party vendors and technology service providers.

  • Hire, build and guide a culture of talent development to have the skills required to effectively design and deliver innovative solutions for product areas and products to meet business objectives and strategy, as well as conduct performance management for engineers and managers.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of Data Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

  • 3+ years of management or leadership experience

  • 6+ years of experience building large‑scale distributed data systems.

  • 4+ years hands‑on experience with GCP (BigQuery, BigLake, Dataplex) and/or Cloudera Data Platform.

  • 4+ years hands‑on experience building data pipelines using Apache Spark, Apache Iceberg, and modern data engineering frameworks.

  • Experience delivering solutions with formal NFR/SRE practices (SLOs, capacity planning, resilience patterns).

  • Demonstrated ability to lead architecture‑influenced engineering, even without a formal architect title.

  • Experience in merchant services, payments, card processing, or adjacent financial services domains.

Desired Qualifications

  • Expertise in data modeling, lineage, cataloging, governance, privacy, and DQ frameworks.

  • Experience building streaming and event‑driven systems (Kafka, schema evolution).

  • Demonstrated FinOps discipline optimizing costs across BigQuery, Spark, and cloud storage/compute.

  • Experience supporting machine learning, generative AI (Vertex) and advanced analytics integrations.

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with a track record of influencing senior stakeholders.

Pay Range

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$139,000.00 - $260,000.00
