Reporting to the Head of Strategic Sourcing, the Senior Category Director – Sourcing Strategy & Enablement is responsible for leading a team focused on functions and processes that elevate the effectiveness of the entire Strategic Sourcing team, including but not limited to support for merger, acquisitions and divestitures, managing Sourcing’s “Offshore Deal Desk” team, supporting ventures and partnerships across Truist from a sourcing perspective, driving increased RFP/competitive bids across all category teams, and increasing category management rigor via enhanced processes. This leader will also provide oversight and development for an offshore team of Strategic Sourcing professionals supporting all categories of spend, with the goal of optimizing the total cost of ownership, managing supplier execution risk through negotiated contract terms and SLA’s, and managing risk at an enterprise scale.
The Senior Category Director serves in a senior relationship management role with key Truist executives to drive collaboration, influencing adoption of sourcing best practices, prioritization of business needs for contract support, and ensure engagement of appropriate resources across Truist Enterprise Corporate Services to deliver supply value with effective risk mitigation.
Using a ‘player/coach’ mindset, this role may also actively manage a pipeline of projects and ensure project delivery to agreed upon timelines and expectations. This individual has a proven track record for successfully driving third party savings programs, and has a deep understanding of the strategic sourcing process including contract strategy, leveraging benchmark information, negotiations, and deal structuring (including complex, multi year tech deals).
The role works across all stakeholder groups including Legal / Contract Management, P2P / Procurement Operations, Spend Analytics, Third Party Risk Operations, and AP / Payment controls. The incumbent will also have a part in ‘RISE’ our multi-year Supply Chain Management transformation program.
The Senior Category Director role is engaged for responsible categories but not limited to the following areas: Contracting / Contract Management, P2P / Procurement Operations, Spend Analytics, Third Party Risk Management and AP / Payment controls. The incumbent will also have experience with driving third party engagements as a key leader in our Truist firm-wide transformation Building for Better (B4B) program.
Responsibilities:
Effectively manage a direct team of Strategic Sourcing Category Directors and Managers within assigned categories.
Oversees the implementation of category strategies within his/her portfolio to optimize business efficiency and ensure the highest level of service delivery, and institutionalizes best-practice processes and policies knowledge sharing with team.
Provide clear direction and expectations of indirect reports across all support groups within the end to end sourcing process and Sourcing Objectives.
Partner with Business Leaders and Executives to ensure that sourcing strategies/category plans are aligned with the Business Goals
Attracts, retains, and promotes top talent, with a strong focus on diversity and builds a robust slate of credible successors for key leadership positions and for opportunities across Truist.
Promote risk excellence and sound risk management as the first line of defense by driving and aligning with bank-wide policies.
Partners with the Truist executive leaders to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity, control, consumption and material cost reductions as measured and compared with world class benchmarks.
Represent Truist in dealings with clients/balance of trade and external bodies such as regulators and government agencies.
Implement process improvements in all phases of the source-to-pay life cycle, supplier rationalization, volume aggregation, preferred vendor programs, product/service requirements and demand management to reduce supplier costs and proactively manage third party related risks.
Establish and drive supplier diversity sourcing and supplier relationship management programs to maximize performance, value and ensure contract terms and outcomes are me.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
15 years of increasingly progressive Procurement, AP, third party risk, corporate services, spend management, consulting, and Strategic Sourcing experience.
Direct management experience of a function with strategic development responsibilities
Demonstrated leadership capabilities in team development and thought leadership
Strong analytical skills
Strong program and transformation management skills
Strong business acumen
Exceptional negotiation and influencing skills
Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels; particularly at the management level
Executive presence and effective presentation skills
Proven track record of delivering material cost savings
Highly self-motivated with the ability to drive change in a matrixed organization with minimum supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
MBA, Masters in Supply Chain, or Juris Doctor degree
Strong understanding of third party risk management principles for Banking or Financial Services companies
Strategic Sourcing leadership role in a Banking or Financial Services company
Experience in decentralized and highly matrixed environments where leadership and influencing skills are necessary to bring about change
Broad based experience in: Procurement, Sourcing, and third party management
Subject Matter Expertise in Procurement business applications and digital transformation
