Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Communication Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for a Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor in business communication beginning August 10, 2026. Required qualifications include a master’s degree (for Lecturer rank) or a terminal degree (for Assistant Teaching Professor rank) in business communication or related areas of communication. Preferred criteria include education and/or work experience in oral and written communication within business and/or related contexts. This may include: industry experience in business communication; evidence of successful teaching in business communication; and/or involvement or leadership in one or more relevant professional associations.

The department seeks a committed teacher who can situate themselves within the University’s Strategic Plan (https://strategicplan.charlotte.edu/full-plan-and-glossary), which has a particular focus on providing education that has profound social and economic value and lifelong impact for students from all backgrounds. Finalists will be asked to discuss how their teaching practices provide an exemplary academic experience for all students, regardless of their entry pathway into the university.

Successful candidates will teach undergraduate courses in business communication with the possibility of teaching other communication courses (e.g., organizational communication, public relations, etc.). Business communication courses will be taught mostly online (in asynchronous or synchronous formats). Other courses may be taught face-to-face. The Business Communication course is offered within the curriculum of the Belk College of Business. Successful candidates will teach four classes in the fall semester and four classes in the spring semester. The successful candidate will also serve on a small number of faculty committees.

Minimum Experience / Education:

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
