Job Title: HVAC Technician 2
Job Description
This contract-to-hire role combines hands-on service of industrial flooring equipment with delivery, installation, and service of portable HVAC and climate control systems. You will perform preventative maintenance and repairs on industrial scrubbers, concrete grinders, and floor sweepers, as well as deliver, install, and troubleshoot rental HVAC equipment for customers. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, small engine and electrical troubleshooting skills, a professional customer-facing presence, and the ability to work safely and independently in a clean, well-organized facility.
Responsibilities
Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on industrial scrubbers, concrete grinders, floor sweepers, and other flooring equipment.
Disassemble and reassemble equipment to accurately diagnose issues and complete repairs to a high standard before equipment is rented again.
Troubleshoot and repair small engines, including both electric and petroleum-powered equipment.
Use hand tools, power tools, measuring tools, and specialty tools to service and repair equipment, supplying and maintaining your own tool set as required.
Conduct daily coordination meetings with leadership to review work orders, priorities, and service schedules.
Deliver and install rented HVAC and climate control equipment at customer sites in the defined territory.
Train authorized operators and customers on the safe use, operation, and basic care of rental HVAC and climate control equipment.
Communicate professionally with customers, internal managers, and sales engineers to schedule deliveries, pick-ups, and service calls.
Obtain required signatures and ensure completion of all necessary paperwork for deliveries, pick-ups, and service calls, including tracking serial numbers and equipment details.
Clean, inspect, and test returned equipment to ensure it meets operational and appearance standards before being returned to inventory.
Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the operation, function, specifications, capabilities, and controls of all assigned rental equipment.
Install flexible gas hoses on propane and natural gas applications, following proper and safe procedures.
Check gas connections using appropriate safety protocols and verify that all installations meet safety standards.
Operate company vehicles safely in accordance with all company safety policies and traffic regulations.
Work with managers and sales engineers to maintain accurate records of in-stock and rented equipment, supporting effective fleet tracking and utilization.
Address customer complaints and service concerns in a professional, solutions-oriented manner.
Remain available for some after-hours and weekend work during peak times and participate in a rotating on-call schedule for emergency service response as needed.
Follow all shop safety procedures, maintain a clean and organized work area, and adhere to facility guidelines, including designated safety lines and equipment storage zones.
Demonstrate a proactive, team-oriented attitude by assisting with general shop duties and supporting colleagues as needed.
Essential Skills
3–5 years of formal HVAC experience and/or training.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair most climate control equipment using sound diagnostic methods.
Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with mechanical systems and assemblies.
Experience troubleshooting and repairing small engines, including electric and petroleum-powered units.
Basic electrical troubleshooting skills related to HVAC and powered equipment.
Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools for mechanical and HVAC work.
Ability to disassemble and reassemble equipment accurately to identify and fix issues.
Basic math skills to support measurements, documentation, and safe installations.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record free from points.
Ability to safely operate a company vehicle in varied traffic and weather conditions.
Comfort communicating directly with customers, managers, and sales engineers in a professional manner.
Ability to explain equipment operation and safety procedures clearly to customers.
Willingness and ability to work some after-hours and weekend shifts during peak times and to participate in a rotating on-call schedule.
Capability to follow safety principles rigorously, including safe gas connection procedures.
Reliability in completing documentation for deliveries, pick-ups, service calls, and equipment tracking.
Ownership and maintenance of a personal tool set that meets role requirements (with minor exceptions as noted).
Consistent, appropriate work attire and professional appearance suitable for customer-facing work.
Strong attention to detail, including the ability to tighten fasteners and complete repairs correctly and safely.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
HVAC certificate preferred, indicating formal training and legal (state-licensed) ability to work on refrigeration systems.
Experience in automotive repair or related mechanical repair fields.
Background in small engine repair, including diagnosis and overhaul.
General mechanical inclination, including comfort with fabrication and basic welding.
Experience with brake systems, welding, and fabrication is a plus.
Familiarity with rental equipment operations, tracking, and documentation is beneficial.
Ability to remain organized and detail-oriented in a high-activity service environment.
Strong problem-solving mindset with a proactive, “put me in” attitude toward taking on tasks and learning new equipment.
Comfort addressing and resolving customer complaints in a calm and professional manner.

Work Environment
You work in a large, clean, and well-organized facility of approximately 45,000 square feet, with clearly marked safety lines and dedicated areas for different equipment types. The shop is climate-controlled, though large garage doors sized for service vans may be open at times, with large fans used to circulate air and maintain comfort. The environment emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and safety, with equipment grouped logically and pathways clearly defined. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, generally from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a firm stop around 5:00–5:15 p.m., no overnight jobs, and no regular weekend work. You receive a 30-minute lunch break, with the option to leave the facility, and two 10-minute breaks during the day. The role involves travel within a regional territory that includes cities such as Charlotte, Asheville, Black Mountain, Shelby, and nearby areas in South Carolina, using a company van that may be taken home or returned to the facility depending on work orders. The work requires appropriate work attire suitable for a professional, safety-focused shop and customer visits, including the use of steel-toe footwear once eligible for the allowance, and consistent adherence to safety practices around tools, vehicles, and gas connections.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $30.72/hr.
