Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Training and Staff Development
The Assistant Security Guard Supervisor leads the training and development of Security Guard staff to ensure consistent security operations across residential facilities. This includes onboarding new employees, providing ongoing coaching and instruction, and maintaining training materials that reflect current policies and procedures. The role ensures staff are prepared to respond to emergencies, communicate effectively, and perform their responsibilities in alignment with Housing and Residence Life and University expectations.
Supervision and Leadership
This position provides direct supervision and leadership to Security Guard staff while maintaining a professional, accountable, and policy-driven work environment. The Assistant Supervisor monitors staff performance, provides guidance and feedback, and supports staff during routine operations as well as high-stress situations or emergencies. Candidates should have experience supervising full-time staff, preferably within security operations or in an overnight work environment.
Professionalism and Customer Service
The Assistant Security Guard Supervisor promotes a customer service–focused approach to residential security by ensuring Security Guards provide professional, responsive assistance to students, visitors, and campus partners. This role supports a welcoming and service-oriented environment while coordinating with University Police, emergency response partners, and Housing and Residence Life staff to address concerns and maintain a safe residential experience.
Minimum Experience / Education:
Required Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in security, enforcement, or protection work. May require valid N.C. driver’s license.

Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
Preference will be given to candidates with experience supervising staff in security, public safety, or similar operational environments, particularly in overnight or shift-based operations.
Experience in higher education—especially within Student Affairs or Housing and Residence Life—is strongly preferred.
Candidates with a background in staff training, incident response, policy enforcement, and collaboration with campus safety partners will be well suited for this role, along with strong communication and customer service skills when working with students and campus partners.
