Actalent Land Survey Crew Chief in Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Job Title: Survey Crew Chief & Instrument OperatorJob Description

We are seeking a Survey Crew Chief and Instrument Operators to join our dynamic surveying team to support mapping needs and projects throughout Eastern North Carolina. As an Instrument Operator, you will play a crucial role in field surveying activities, including maintaining survey equipment and assisting in data collection for land development projects.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a team responsible for surveying land and collecting data about land conditions for development projects.

  • Adjust and operate surveying instruments such as Leica/Nikon, digital and automatic levels, and various survey-related software.

  • Transport and manage all surveying instruments at job sites across diverse landscapes.

  • Identify project survey control points and above-ground utility surface features.

  • Prepare or update field sketches of marked utilities and survey designated marks accurately using available survey control.

  • Survey utility appurtenances, including pedestals, handholes, water valves, water meters, utility poles, and other utility structures.

  • Record survey measurements and descriptive data using data collectors and GPS, adhering to well-established standards.

  • Perform all duties outdoors, working in all weather conditions.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in land surveying and instrument operating.

  • Experience in boundary and topographic surveys.

  • Familiarity with Leica/Nikon instruments, digital levels, and survey-related software.

  • Ability to identify and document utility configurations and survey control points.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of surveying experience.

  • Experience with TOPCON, Robotic Total Stations, GPS, and TRIMBLE Survey Equipment.

  • Six months of survey experience or equivalent training/courses in surveying.

  • Thorough understanding of standard survey procedures and instruments.

  • Associate's degree or higher in surveying technology/geomatics, civil engineering, or a related field is a plus.

Work Environment

The work environment is predominantly outdoors, requiring work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. The role involves fieldwork more than office work, with minimal travel, and is close to home. This position offers the chance to work with experienced professionals who provide mentorship and guidance in the field.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chapel Hill, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
