TEKsystems Entry Level/Lead Technician in Chantilly, Virginia
Project Overview
We are supporting a large‑scale hyperscale data center deployment requiring Entry‑Level Fiber Technicians and Lead Fiber Technicians. This project involves fiber installation, porting, testing, troubleshooting, and general data center infrastructure build‑out. The work does not include fiber splicing.
The ideal candidates are hard‑working, mechanically inclined, safety‑conscious team players who take initiative and are eager to grow—not individuals who are only interested in basic patching work.
Entry‑Level Fiber TechnicianKey Responsibilities
Pull, route, and secure fiber throughout the data center
Assemble, stack, and drill equipment racks
Scan, label, and port equipment
or lead technicians
Maintain site cleanliness and follow all safety protocols
Required Qualifications
Experience working in physically demanding environments (construction, trades, military, or similar)
Comfortable working on ladders and scissor lifts during extended shifts
Strong work ethic with a positive, coachable attitude
Reliable attendance and punctuality
Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
Hands-on electrical or military experience is highly valued
Lead Fiber TechnicianKey Responsibilities
Lead fiber installation activities including pulling, routing, testing, and troubleshooting
Perform fiber testing using OTDR and Fluke equipment
Review and manage cut sheets and project documentation
Delegate work, oversee technicians, and ensure productivity
Perform QC/QA, site documentation, and progress reporting
Interface with customers and provide daily updates, photos, and reports
Required Qualifications
2+ years of experience leading data center fiber projects
in fiber testing, troubleshooting, and documentation
Experience managing teams and directing installation activities
Customer‑facing experience and professional communication skills
Proven reliability, leadership ability, and attention to detail

Work Environment
Active data center construction sites
Long shifts with extended standing, walking, lifting, and ladder/lift use
Potential for night or second shift work as project demands change

Daily shuttle service provided to and from the data center
Required PPE (On Site)
Candidates must be able to comply with the following PPE requirements:
Composite‑toe safety boots (6" over‑the‑ankle)
Type 2, Class E hardhat with chinstrap
High‑visibility yellow vest
Safety glasses
Level 4 cut‑resistant gloves
(Some PPE may be provided, excluding safety boots.)
Required Training (Prior to Site Access)
General Safety Training (Approx. 4 hours)
Scissor Lift Certification (Approx. 1 hour, online)
OSHA‑10 Safety Certification (Approx. 10 hours, online)

This is a Contract position based out of Chantilly, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
