Job Title: CNC Lathe Machine Operator

Job Description

The CNC Lathe Machine Operator sets up and operates CNC and conventional lathe machines to produce high-quality parts according to blueprints and specifications. This role uses precision measuring tools and inspection techniques to ensure all components meet strict quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC lathe machines and related turning equipment to produce parts according to engineering drawings and work instructions.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine machining requirements, dimensions, and tolerances.

  • Load raw materials into machines, secure workpieces properly, and select appropriate tooling for each job.

  • Monitor machine operations, make necessary adjustments to feeds, speeds, and offsets, and ensure consistent and accurate production.

  • Perform in-process and final inspections of machined parts using calipers and other precision measuring instruments.

  • Identify and correct basic machining issues such as dimensional deviations, surface finish problems, or tool wear.

  • Follow established quality control procedures and document inspection results as required.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including machines, tools, and measuring equipment.

  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and standard operating procedures while working with machinery and tools.

  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production targets and continuously improve machining processes.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience operating CNC lathe machines in a production or machining environment.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately.

  • Hands-on experience with lathe machine operation, including setup and basic adjustments.

  • Proficiency in using calipers and other precision measuring tools for part inspection.

  • Strong understanding of machining processes, tolerances, and quality standards.

  • Attention to detail and ability to identify defects or deviations during inspection.

  • Commitment to following safety procedures when working with machinery and tools.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Formal qualification or prior role as a CNC Lathe Machine Operator.

  • Familiarity with both CNC and conventional lathe machines.

  • Basic troubleshooting skills for machine and tooling issues.

  • Ability to work from written instructions and production documentation.

  • Strong organizational skills to maintain tools, equipment, and work area.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing or machine shop environment, working directly with CNC and conventional lathe machines and related machining equipment. You spend most of the day on the shop floor, standing, moving between machines, and handling metal parts and tools. The work involves exposure to typical industrial conditions such as machine noise and the use of cutting fluids and lubricants. You follow all safety procedures, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment, and maintain an organized and clean work area around the machines and inspection stations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chanhassen, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr.
