Mechanical Inspector – Aerospace

Job Description

This role focuses on performing precise mechanical inspections in an aerospace manufacturing environment, ensuring that large, complex components meet stringent quality and industry standards. You will use a variety of inspection tools and software, interpret detailed engineering documentation, and collaborate closely with engineering, quality, and shop floor teams to support reliable, high-quality production.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical inspection of aerospace components with at least 3 years of hands-on experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment.

  • Use inspection equipment such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and vision systems/comparators to verify dimensions and tolerances.

  • Inspect large parts that require working with very tight tolerances and high levels of precision.

  • Interpret and work from complex engineering drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and procedures to determine inspection requirements.

  • Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles to evaluate part compliance with specifications.

  • Document inspection results accurately using computer systems, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and an ERP system (preferably ABAS).

  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with manufacturing engineering, inspection personnel, and shop floor employees to resolve quality issues and clarify requirements.

  • Support and adhere to AS9100 and aerospace industry quality requirements in all inspection activities.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including Kaizen, 5S, Lean Enterprise, and other quality-enhancing practices.

  • Assist in maintaining organized, efficient, and safe inspection areas in alignment with lean and 5S principles.

  • Utilize CMM and related inspection tools where applicable to verify part geometry and dimensions.

  • Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities to help maintain consistent aerospace quality inspection standards.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of solid mechanical inspection experience in the aerospace industry.

  • Proficiency in using inspection equipment such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and vision systems/comparators.

  • Strong experience with AS9100 and aerospace industry quality requirements.

  • Proficient in reading and understanding complex engineering drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and procedures.

  • Proficient understanding and application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).

  • Ability to work with large parts and maintain very tight tolerances.

  • Good computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Experience using an ERP system for quality or production-related tasks, preferably ABAS.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work closely with engineering, inspection, and shop floor teams.

  • Hands-on experience in aerospace quality inspection and quality control.

  • CMM experience for dimensional inspection and verification.

  • in a manufacturing setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with CALYPSO and Gear Pro software is preferred but not required.

  • Experience with Kaizen, 5S, Continuous Improvement, and Lean Enterprise practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to process improvements and efficiency in inspection and quality operations.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality standards in aerospace manufacturing.

  • Ability to work effectively in a short-run production environment with changing priorities.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large-part machine shop that focuses on short-run production for the aerospace industry. You will work around machining centers and inspection stations, handling sizable components that require careful measurement and attention to tight tolerances. The environment emphasizes lean manufacturing, 5S organization, and continuous improvement, with regular use of inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, vision systems/comparators, CMM equipment, and ERP systems. Work is performed in a hands-on, shop-floor setting where collaboration with engineers, inspectors, and production staff is part of the daily routine.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cerritos, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
