Role purpose

The COO/ Business Manager will support senior leadership across Markets and Securities Services (MSS) to drive strategic execution, business performance and operational effectiveness. You’ll combine business management discipline with transformation and project management capability—shaping delivery roadmaps, coordinating cross-functional execution, and ensuring governance, controls and business readiness are embedded across initiatives. You’ll work with Product Owners, Sales & Trading, Technology and Functions (e.g., Legal, Compliance, Product Control) across multiple geographies to deliver outcomes that meet business, client and regulatory needs.

Key responsibilities

Business management & strategic execution

• Own and drive key business management rhythms (planning cycles, prioritisation, performance tracking), ensuring alignment to MSS strategy and value outcomes.

• Translate leadership direction into clear, actionable plans across teams; track delivery against commitments and intervene early where progress is at risk.

• Support operating cadence for senior stakeholders (steerco packs, leadership updates, decision logs), ensuring clarity on asks, decisions and actions.

Transformation & project delivery

• Lead and/or coordinate one or more transformation initiatives (and workstreams) from initiation through deployment, defining scope, milestones, dependencies, budget and resourcing.

• Maintain delivery roadmaps and robust financial, risk and change control, including RAID management and mitigation plans.

• Drive execution discipline across multiple initiatives—removing blockers, managing interdependencies and ensuring outcomes land as intended.

Business readiness & implementation

• Define and run implementation/migration plans, ensuring operational readiness, training, cutover and post-implementation stabilisation.

• Ensure mandatory and regulatory requirements are understood, planned for and embedded into delivery.

• Partner with Operations and Functions to ensure controls, procedures and handovers are fit for purpose and sustainable.

Operating model, process & controls

• Document current, interim and future-state processes and the target operating model to support safe adoption in day-to-day MSS operations.

• Identify opportunities to simplify processes, reduce operational risk and improve efficiency; drive pragmatic improvements through to implementation.

• Support control environment effectiveness (e.g., governance, MI, issue management), ensuring clear ownership and timely remediation.

Stakeholder management

• Build trusted relationships across Front Office, Product, Technology and Functions; provide clear, timely updates and manage expectations.

• Proactively challenge teams to deliver better outcomes—simplify, remove blockers and improve delivery pace and quality.

• Facilitate cross-boundary collaboration across geographies and time zones to land decisions and maintain momentum.

Requirements

• Significant experience in COO/Business Management, transformation, project/change management or equivalent roles within Markets and Securities Services.

• Track record driving large-scale business and/or technology change in global, multi-time-zone environments, with strong execution discipline.

• Strong planning, analytical and task management skills; able to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

• Proven ability to build trusted relationships and influence across business and technology at multiple levels.

• Experience working in Agile delivery environments, with evidence of uplifting teams through best practices and pragmatic governance.
