REGIONAL PROGRAM COORDINATOR

  • SOUTHERN UTAH -

The Indigent Defense Commission and Utah Office of Indigent Defense Services is seeking a 

*Regional Program Coordinator *

(must be located in Iron County or nearby counties)

 to provide high-level administrative support to the Southern Utah Regional Managing Defender and will be working with and providing support to the following counties: Iron, Beaver, Kane, Wayne, Sevier, Sanpete and Grand. This position assists with compliance related to Indigent Defense Commission (IDC) grants, including applications, reporting, audits, and required documentation. The role also supports case assignments, workload tracking, contracts, invoicing, and departmental reporting.

Please note, there is no office in the area for this position, so the candidate chosen would be expected to have the ability to work remotely, but also have the flexibility to be able to report in person to different area locations.

Principal Duties:

  • Assists with Indigent Defense Commission (IDC) grant applications;
  • Tracks and maintains current public defender contracts and MOU s between the counties;
  • Assists with biannual caseload reporting, and quarterly department and indigent defense system audits and reporting;
  • Assists with case assignments and workload tracking; implementation of a case management and time-tracking systems;
  • Audits and processes invoices for public defender department services, tracks payment for defender resources and expenditures; 
  • Calendars commission meetings and other criminal community partner meetings for each region and county; 
  • Helps to coordinate conflict attorney representation, communicates with county and court staff, executes conflict public defender contracts and tracks invoicing;  
  • Provides general case-status information to clients as authorized; helps to bridge communication gaps between public defenders and clients; AND
  • responds to general requests for information from judges, court staff, clients, attorneys, correctional facilities, investigators, and experts. 

Ideal Qualifications

  • Experience:  Proven experience as an Executive Assistant, similar administrative role.
  • Communication:  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organization:  Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills, and the ability to work independently.
  • Technology:  Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and office softwa re (e.g., G-Suite, Calendar tools).
  • Skills:  High level of professionalism, discretion in handling sensitive information, attention to detail,  the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced legal environment and support multiple counties and their department needs simultaneously.

The Utah Indigent Defense Commission

IDC s mission is to protect constitutionally guaranteed liberties through ongoing support for effective indigent defense services throughout the state. The Commission collaborates with the state, local governments, indigent defense providers, and other stakeholders to:

  • provide guidance and standards for systems to ensure and oversee local defense services;
  • gather and report  informat on about local indigent defense services;
  • award state funding to local governments to improve local indigent defense services;
  • encourage and aid in the regionalization of indigent defense services throughout the state; and
  • expand continuing legal education opportunities for indigent defense attorneys.
