Job Purpose
The Night Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and supporting after-hours transportation operations to ensure safe, efficient, and timely movement of drivers, equipment, and freight. This role serves as the primary point of contact during overnight shifts, monitoring driver activity, responding to operational issues, and maintaining communication with drivers, terminals, and on-call management. The Night Dispatcher plays a critical role in maintaining service continuity and safety compliance outside of standard business hours.
Main Responsibilities
Monitor and dispatch drivers during overnight and after-hours operations.
Track driver status, loads, arrivals, departures, and delays using dispatch and tracking systems.
Communicate with drivers regarding assignments, routing, delays, breakdowns
Respond to driver calls related to equipment issues, incidents, weather, or service disruptions.
Escalate emergencies, accidents, or critical issues to on-call management
Ensure compliance with Hours-of-Service (HOS), company policies, and safety procedures.
Update logs, dispatch notes, and operational records accurately and in real time.
Coordinate with terminals, customers, vendors, and maintenance providers as needed.
Monitor email, messaging systems, and dispatch platforms for overnight requests and updates.
Provide shift handoff summaries and documentation to day dispatch or operations teams.
Other duties as assigned

Support safety and compliance initiatives by reporting concerns or trends.
Participate in training related to dispatch systems, safety procedures, and company policies.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in any business-related or relevant field
Strong written communication skills, especially in email correspondence
Effective problem‑solving and issue‑resolution abilities
Proficient computer skills and ability to learn new systems quickly
Professional demeanor and interpersonal skills
Solid background in office or administrative work
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel) is an advantage
